Kitchen floor tiles

Looking for nice beige tiles to put in small country style kitchen. I like natural stone but hear that it won't be easy to maintain.

I wanted slate tiles in my kitchen but was advised they are absorbent and difficult to clean. I then chose porcelain tiles in a dark grey slate look and they’re great. Really easy to clean - hoover then a mop every now and then. Tough as old boots too!

There are many designs similar on ebay if you type Victorian floor tiles, a vast array of patterns and styles will come up with some more ostentatious than others. Hope this helps.

Hi Sarah, I think contrast usually adds a wow to any scheme. I think if your kitchen cabinet unit/doors are matt then go gloss on the floor tiles. I think if the cabinets are gloss then do a matt floor. Another consideration is how you want the room to feel. The polished gloss version will throw around more light and bounce off the surface. I recently had my very small bathroom re-tiled. We used the marble effect polished white/grey veined tiles. The light bouncing off everything feels so glamorous. Also when adding value to your home - adding space or adding light adds value.

You could have a glass splashback as opposed to tiles. Far easier to keep clean. You could have a plain clear one, a sprayed one to your own colour choice if you offer the supplier a BS or RAL code or even look online for a more decorative one. Thanks @Sonia. Good shout. We did think about extending the parquet floor but i fear we will be unable to get a decent match - the existing floor has been down for about 60 years and has been sanded and treated a number of times so it has a fairly unique character. Really appreciate the suggestion. Wil give it some more thought.

The image was from Pinterest and the tiles are called Polvere Beige Porcelain tile by Floors of Stone, however Topps Tiles and many other tile centres will have a similar tile.

I would go for vitrified porcelain with rectified edges. This means that it doesn't need to be glazed so can look very natural (as it's vitrified) and the edges means that you can get away with 2mm grout lines. Porcelanosa may be worth looking at.
