help! my new hallway needs "something" but i don't know what!
Comments (16)Hi There I would add a hallway runner to take away the echo that would be there (due to there being a hard floor). I would also add something in the hall either a coat rack wall, mounted or free standing and change the light fittings for something unusual, a striking fitting is what is necessary in a room with very few features....See MoreMy very first apartment - and I don't know what to do with it!
Comments (11)Congratulations on getting such a beautiful first apartment. I'd definitely start with a sofa and 2 chairs, and NOT a loveseat! A lot of us houzzers are anti-loveseat. Two chairs offer so much more flexibility than a loveseat. I'd place the sofa on the wall opposite the fireplace. The two chairs would go in the window with a small table between them. You said you wanted a "big old sofa". I hope that was just a figure of speech as what I think you'd be far better off with is a sofa that is of a nice size, but not too big. I'd look for one with skinny arms so that you have more seating space which is what a sofa is for, after all! A sofa that is 84" long will fit in most homes nicely. Watch the depth of the sofa too as lots of them have gotten far too deep. I'd go 39" deep max. Remember that this is your first apartment, but not your last so stick with pieces that aren't too big. Pay attention to the size of the chairs also. I'd stay under 35" wide, and again with narrow arms. My recommendation would be solid fabrics for both the sofa and the chairs. You can have fun with pattern when you get around to a rug and pillows. You'll also need a coffee table, plus a table to go between the two chairs. I adore the faceted mirror table from West Elm below and would make it a must have. The coffee table below with the marble top is lovely as long as you don't spill red wine on it! Comments (12)Hi, I agree with Nancy a white wooden bed would be great in your bedroom especially as you have painted your door white and your skirting is white also, or alternatively a darker grey fabric headboard would also be stunning with white bedding.. Wall colour is a very personal choice but i would recommend a light grey by The little Greene company No. 224 (INOX) i think it would work well with your existing patten and will not be to over powering in the room. See link: http://www.littlegreene.com/paint/colour/grey-paint-colours/inox-224 I would re-sintall the fireplace if you can as would bring back that classic look you are going for, keeping a white surround or shelf would also keep the room feeling light and airy. Pop some frames or artwork up on the walls behind the bed and maybe a mirror about the fireplace (if you re-install) and i think you will have a very stunning bedroom. I hope this is helpful, please email me if you would like to chat. Peach x...See MoreLiving room a complete mess and don’t know how to get it to work
Comments (33)I'd have to say stay away from silver as I think it will clash with both the floor and the furniture, which are neutral tones. A light oak curtain pole and pale neutral curtains with a natural material if you're going to go with the curtains. These are a similar colour to the furniture, a shade or two lighter to lift the room, but should work well with the blue of the wall and the floor and the furniture. curtains 2 Go You could also have the curtains, just for show and couple them with Roman blinds in the blue, which I personally think would look amazing.
