Hi, I have a living room on the ground floor and a dining room which I have changed into a family room – to watch TV on sofa with a study. both the rooms have a firplecae and on either side are the walls to potentially put something up.

I am planning to get alcove units installed on both sides of the fireplace in the family room. Do you suggest I should have alcove units installed din the living room as well or it's fine to not to have built up shelves in that room. Instead, I was planning to get sideboards withs one wall painting hanging in the living room on both sides of the alcove.

Please give suggestions. Thanks.

I think that what you have planned sounds lovely. No need to mirror the alcove cabinets in both rooms, and certainly a sideboard or side table will be great.
