Help! Small entrance way with back of stairs in it so mind your head
Comments (9)Just be careful with the 'modern cottage' look. I've seen many people de-value their home by taking out original features. Mixing old with new will look wonderful, and i like the idea of some nice bright colours. The Hall floor is quite dull, drab and not at all cottagey. Change the floor, have a built in understairs cupboard with a lovely old door on it. Paint the walls in the whole house white / off white for light and go with accessories, mirrors, cushions, curtains, lights etc to add the colour that you want. Cottages can be on the small side and therefore, painting the whole house one colour, but accessorising with different ones in different rooms makes the whole house flow and look bigger....See MorePrivacy wanted on full-length glass front door to house
Comments (8)You could put in stained glass of some type or perhaps a traditional etched glass or sandblasted design . The benefit of stained glass is it that it adds colour to the inside and lights up like a lantern when it is dark. You can still have a panel you can see through if you wanted. I would recommend getting both the window and the doorway done to complement one another, as that would be really lovely from both the inside and the outside. Your entrance seems fairly exposed as it is, so another alternative would be to fit a secondary door internally to your hallway with an obscure glass treatment that would give you privacy. Comments (7)Our units will be all along that left side wall with utility cupboard at end. No units at all on any of the walks on the left side. We also have all the space under the stairs for storage/pantry/fridge-freezer (?) Currently the stairs are open and we can stand under them, we plan integrated units under stairs. Also considering an island, parallel to the left side run if units. Now to try a layout! MATH -how did you do up those sketches so quickly?...See MoreTiny! front entrance/porch way - need ideas!!
Comments (17)MATH, isn't the lovely panelling the open living room door? I agree put the coats elsewhere, but even if you do get rid of all of them, I'd still put some hooks on the other side where there is a recess so they don't obscure sight lines so much. Empty hooks are useful for visitors coats , or if you are going in and out all day and don't want to be putting your coat away constantly. I'd be tempted to hang coats low and have a shelf above them, with a mirror above the shelf....See MoreEmma Kellas-Kelly
