4 years agoHi LTS I can confirm that greyish green looks good with red brick and render, this is my house at the back with F&B Light Grey 17 windows (bottom image). I can also confirm that it looks good with black as you can see from the soffits etc. However, anthracite can have a blue tinge and therein lies the problem. I'm not saying that it won't work but it may be worth looking at the hue of the different greens. Forget how 'grey' the green is and think about how yellow green it is or how blue green it is - it can't be both. My windows are yellow/green so I think they are too far away in hue from anthracite to work. However, if you were to look at bluer greens (which can also be greyed) then you find find a better match. The top image shows how blue anthracite is, the middle image shows a blue green (Pigeon) and the bottom is yellow green. You could buy some test pots and paint in on the frames near the anthracite. Hope this helps and isn't too confusing.

We never wanted anthracite but I won’t bore you with the problems we encountered when building the extension!
I’ve found these pics online so think it should work so long as the lighter grey compliments the anthracite. I’ve asked the window company for samples.

Comments (3)2 schools of thought there,,,But I have seen in a good number of historical properties, even some National Trust ones, that there is an increasing tendency to de-mark the difference between old & new. I think the idea, might be that down the line, the architecture will read more ‘honestly’ as coming from differing periods. Personally I prefer that, than for something to be faux-Victorian, say. And sorry Sonia but the island is full of pastel coloured houses, would make me feel a bit nauseous to come home to one every day (assuming we ever go out again). Husband has vetoed anything darker so Downpipe will probably stay, but like the idea of painting the external sashes the same. The more minimal the better, from our POV. The colour on the left was the colour we preferred for our extension - do you think it goes with the anthracite? And would you stick with white rendor at the top of the house or an off white/stone colour? Thank you.
