awkward bathtub near window

I have a problem with this bathtub it’s near the window I would like to install a shower . I cannot move the bathtub no space . I don’t want to lose a bedroom to make the bathroom bigger . I believe the tub can stay where it is and a shower can be installed but every builder I have come to look at this job don’t seem to have any ideas. Does anyone have any ideas how to install a shower but also to protect the window from water, I really don’t like shower curtains

Can’t they just move the taps and water supply to the middle or other end to for a shower?

Apparently it will cost me a lot of money to move the water supply I’m on a budget .. and at the end of the bath there’s no supporting wall so one builder said no to that option but thanks for your suggestion.

You can use side panels or a deck/surround to create what is, in effect, a free standing bath that would work well aesthetically and, optionally, as part of a wetroom-style bathroom. Deep soaking tubs are especially effective for such projects; they have smaller footprint, which affords more room in the shower area, but their greater depth makes them exceptionally comfortable.

Curtains look neutral as does the carpet. Personally I would keep these to start with and paint the walls a mid grey which might sound bold when originally you wanted white but it will be broken up a lot by the windows and kitchen. If it is possible to get rid of the peninsular the kitchen will feel less imposing. Since the kitchen is open to the living room I would be trying to find a cupboard elsewhere to house this although you can get washers with a timer which you can set when you go to bed and they finish as you get up in the morning. Rectangular dining tables work when you have a straight wall perhaps a circular table would be better here. I would use masking tape on the floor to help visualise furniture placement. Try putting a sofa in the middle of the room, with the side to the front door and it facing the opposite corner to the kitchen.

Hi, if you are planning to stay in this house for a good number of years, I would, if possible i.e. there are no obstacles in the hallway etc, move the door way to the end of the room (towards the front window) and have it opening right handed (so that when you open it you look directly down the full length of the room) this would mean moving the light switch, but it also means you have more furniture placement options and you utilise dead space as the door opens on to a wall which has little use. I would also use upright radiators to free up wall space, again a radiator could be placed behind the door, making use of the dead space the door opens on to. A good tv arm will also give you the option to move the orientation of the tv and may make life easier. I currently have a tv on an arm which is mounted to the back of a built in bookcase along with other associated tv stuff, this has the added benefit that the wires are hidden down the back so no sockets, leads or wires can be seen, the plug sockets are accessed via a removable panel at the bottom (we bought two off the shelf and built them in ourselves) they sit either side of a set of french windows), the remaining shelves are used to store books and objet d'art etc. The tv folds away flat into the bookcase when not in use. My only other recommendation would be to not block the view of the garden (a view of the garden will make the room feel larger and will give you the opportunity to view it all year round). I know some of the suggestions may at first appear expensive but in the long run if it makes the room 'work' for you it will be well worth the cost and hassel. I hope it helps. Good luck.

We got delayed by replacing our boiler, so fitting starts in six weeks. So I don’t know yet if the final design is any good! But what we will do is build a false wall on the low side of the room, and then have a 100x120 cm shower tray, with a glass door and panel on one side. We will get the glass cut and fitted by a specialist company. We will have storage in the alcove on the other side of the shower.

Could the builders remove the wood trim around the window and the window sill, tile and seal it, and attach a toughened glass 'door' (for want of a better term) on hinges that covers half the window from the shower side. The hinges would allow you to be able to access the window area easily for cleaning and the glass door would protect the window from any splashes. Being only halfway across the window, the door would not interfere with any ventilation you want from an open window.

I know you said you don't like shower curtains, but it depends on how much you want to spend ;). If the shower head is attached to the left hand wall looking at the window, you could just tile further up the walls around that area and install a curved shower curtain rail that shelters the window and the floor around the bath.
