Bespoke Kitchen Update
Comments (30)Wow, what a lot of comments. I think you have a wonderful kitchen, which has been created with much love & attention to detail. You are asking about painting things in a dark / inky colour - & your Oak unit - but you already have a mid grey wall surrounding the Oak unit - which is why it stands out - take the walls back to an off white & it will blend back in. The lighting in the entire area doesn't seem to be enough for "dark inky colours" - If you really want something like that why not create a picture of what you want on canvas & put it behind glass in the Aga alcove? Your Aga is dark already so it might just make that area a feature. Don't start taking out bits of the kitchen - once you start you will carry on & suddenly your Dad's work will be destroyed, which would be incredibly sad. Your kitchen works well for you - I do agree that the floor could be underfloor heating with tiles on the top - but weigh up the costs before you start. Lighting is everything, so more lights - ceiling not spots -LEDs as many as you can! From the photographs you provide it looks as if the room leading off from the dining area is already a darkish room, & were you to paint the oak any colour at all I think you would regret it - a slight chip there or a knock here & the paint starts to come away - wood is beautiful, it holds history and it gives such beauty - use that as your palate.. Be gentile on your kitchen - try painting paper and then bluetack it to the wall / unit /island etc. so you get an idea of what it might look like if you painted it - a great source of long paper is to be found in the wallpaper isle - you can buy a roll of lining paper for under £5, get the paint test pots & try out your ideas without damaging the beauty you already have....See MoreInspire Us! - Looking For Design & Layout Ideas
Comments (5)Hi. A loft conversion is a great way to add space and value. Assuming you can do that (depends on height of loft) you will need to create a corridor on the first floor to get to the stairs leading to the loft. the corridor should be on the right side as you go up. the bedroom on the right will be cut into 3 parts; 1 part a corridor, one part will be added to the small bedroom at the rear and make it bigger and the last part will be a new bathroom on the first floor. This way you cancel the shower room on ground floor and replace it by a small toilet. On ground floor, turn the kitchen, bathroom and conservatory into a larger open kitchen with an island. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any further questions, I will be more than happy to help. just drop me a line or visit www.betterspace.co. we specialize in layout design. Comments (6)Thanks, good luck with it! We felt that it used the space a bit more rather than just having the furniture arranged along the walls. I like the look of the free-standing bath in the corner (something i had seen on houzz!) and it seemed logical to us with the lay out of our bathroom as to have it fully away from a wall would take up valuable space so the corner seemed the perfect compromise... behind the bath provides handy hide-away storage ;)...See MoreIdeas on how to update a serving hatch/ kitchen hatch?
Comments (25)We had a serving hatch that we have opened up so we can use as a small breakfast bar - we didn’t want open plan as our dogs sleep in the kitchen if we have guests over. We also want the option to close it (if I get up in the night for a drink, the kitchen light wakes our parrot up!!). we want to avoid Louvre doors but can’t find a blind that seems small enough. Any ideas?...See Morekatinparadise
