Living room HELP

I have a small space living room, currently a pale sort of apple green with dark wood flooring. My new sofa is grey so I would like a new colour scheme to brighten up my living room in keeping the grey sofa and dark flooring. Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm struggling here!

I really love your room - exciting shapes. You only need one thing to kick-start your imagination. Lose the animal skin and choose one large beautiful multi coloured rug (could be very modern, ethnic, or even antique) to reflect the sofa colours and add cushions to echo the rug colours. This will bring the sofas together and unify the lost space between them. Then the rest will follow naturally; e,g, art, ornaments coffee tables lamps etc;. You might like to think about a radiator cover that stretched across the whole of that wall with a shelf on top and VERY large flat louvres across the entire width. This will make that wall appear to be wider and the full width louvres will accentuate that feel. Above, on the shelf sit lovely modern vases, glass ornaments etc; above that a large stunning piece of art. Good luck - you are lucky to have such an interesting starting point.

Hi! This room looks like it's part hallway too, is it possible to have the TV under the stairs? And if the room is just a snug for adults do you really need both sofas? Consider removing one if possible and if you move the TV under the stairs it gives most distance and Will really help the room look bigger. I'd paint it a white colour and really brighten it up. Get a nice big mirror on the wall where you said the sun shines to help bounce the light around the space. I think if you go light on the walls your flooring is fine, invest in a comfortable rug to go just slightly under your sofa where you prefer to sit. Add some greenery to breath life into the space and really freshen and brighten it up. And since its a cosey snug type room consider some cushions of a nice accent colour and adding a chunky knit throw. You can always stick to neutrals. Consider some ambient lighting in the form of a nice floor lamp too. Good luck and have fun with it!

There are some great ideas here. I particularly like the beigey pink paint suggestion as it will warm things up without overwhelming the space. It would also go well with all the items already in the room. I also agree with other Houzzers that there is no need to replace your sofas, which do look very comfortable and in great condition. I would certainly add lots of patterned, colourful cushions; perhaps loosely geometric (as in Sonia's well-chosen pics) to echo your rug. Texture would also offer a cosiness (Doo LM's suggestion is great). Once you have the cushion fillers/inners, I would suggest buying extra cushion covers, which are easy to store and can be switched in and out as the season or your mood changes - Etsy is a great source for these. For me throws are must-haves as they provide instant cosiness and can be switched about for seasonal interest and feel as with the cushion covers. I agree with those who feel that your TV should remain in the same position on the attractive unit. Moving it to over the fireplace would definitely detract from the lovely wood burner and mantel. It is great to have those as a focus when you are entertaining and not an overbearing television. Plus it would be a terrible viewing angle and bad for your neck! I would suggest concentrating on art works for either side of the fireplace so that becomes even more of a focal point. I would also be inclined to place a taller plant to the left of the television but you could just wait until the one you have grows! By the way you have positioned it well at a transitional location between the 2 walls. I think you are well on the way to creating a lovely space without spending a great deal of money. Good luck.

I believe that just by moving the pieces of furniture you can create an illusion of more space and can achieve a better look. Decor the room with a more neutral tone (rug, cushions and throw) and use the floor lamp next to the sofa focusing on the edge. Cover the ceiling lights with a shade made out of cane and place a similar cane desk lampshade on your side table/TV unit. Can that mattress be moved to a different room? Hope this helps!
