Kitchen cabinet advice

We had Cambria Berwyn countertops installed last year and have been living with the cabinets as is but would love to have them painted. There is white trim throughout the house so I’m wondering if the cabinets should be as close of a match as possible to the trim or not worry about it?

I think it would be best to choose a paint that goes well with your counters. That might be the same as the trim, or not.

Seems to me gray would be perfect color for your cabinets if you like the look. Not sure about the exact shade, probably a lighter option, but it should match one of the shades in your counter. Whatever you decide, make sure to choose a high quality paint and, if possible, hire a professional painter to do the job.

Hi, I have just finished repainting my kitchen myself. Overall I am happy with the new look, but I think the final verdict is only possible after some time (to see if the paint hardens enough). I have used Ammonite Farrow and Ball which is very warm grey colour. It looks nice in dark corners as well. Had to apply 4 coats of paint after 3 coats of FB primer. So be aware of the quantities. I must say that the process of repainting was not an easy ride. I spent overall three weeks (full time weekends and doing some smaller works in the evenings). Preparation is the hardest part (sanding, sanding and sanding), while painting is also a vey delicate process). If you are not afraid of hard work do it yourself! Otherwise, a professional is always a good option. Check traditionalpainter.com website they have a number of good instructions on repainting the cabinets.

Hi there, great colour choice, it will bring out gorgeous working tops & the bar chairs! Tips: - spraypaint not paint - get a few sheen version samples from your spray painting company & test it that you like it - they will match the F&B colour Oh and if you are changing the colour. Having the extra height in the room will certainly be useful and it's definately something to maximize. Understanding your project now with your floorplan - using the under window space will be a bonus for you, so hope that is possible. The suggestions of other posters of shaker style with paint combination of light and dark will give you a long lasting classic look which will combine well into a simple living room combination. Lighter top units in your selected areas will help keep the room light while allowing you to maximize the room. With those wonderful windows it will be a stunning area for you as your main space.

Your cabinets look nice. But what is the wood piece in foreground of photo? Is it a support for the countertop? why doesn't it match the cabinet?

I would choose the lightest color in your counter ...I.e. off white , cream, light gray for your paint ...! I agree the wood does not go with your kitchen . ...even though it's nice and many people are often offended by painting wood ..., but I would like it better .

The warm wood gives it life. If you paint it, it’ll just be another of the many many dilemmas wanting to know how to warm it up. Leave it alone.

With a gray backsplash, I would paint the cabinetry white to match the white in the counter.

Also, with the cool gray/whites of the counter and backsplash, the beige wall does not work. I think that I would repaint that first, then decide if I still want to paint the cabinets. A pretty blue or blue-green would look nice.

I like your cabinets, they have such a nice, warm feel to them. Maybe you don't need to paint them at all, just choose sleek hardware for your cabinetry and maybe choose some of the upper cabinets to replace their fronts with glass. This can create a nice balance and save your money.

Your kitchen walls are in the beige creme warm tones.

Your new countertop is in the cooler tones.

Since the investment of the new countertop was not too long ago, I suggest embracing cooler tones to bring it back cohesiveness.

Painting the walls is a much easier starting point & much cheaper solution than refinishing cabinets.

Here's some cooler tone rooms with light wood stain cabinets for examples

Painting cabinets is not easy. Can not just roll paint on.

Refinishing Cabinets is the correct way.

There's a lot to do for prep, for example, taking off clear coat, sanding them well , priming, sanding again to make smooth, clean prepping, painting /spraying & sealing.

I would not attempt that as a DIY job, because there is too much money sitting on top of them if something goes wrong. Since you recently just bought countertop, no way would i risk it. There are too posts on Houzz of paint jobs gone wrong. HIre a professional refacing company who specializes in just that. A company who has been in business for years, has referrals, & a warranty with their work. Take parts to their pro paint booth.

I have seen too many people go the cheaper route by DIY & or a contractor/painter that ended up being a big mess. Hard to fix a blotched cabinet paint job.

It's expensive to fix & redo. So, do yourself a favor, please hire right the 1st time. A Cabinet Refinisher reputable company is worth the extra cost.

Totally agree with the suggestions about painting the walls and replacing cabinet hardware to change the look of this space to fit in with the new counters. In the long run, wood finish cabinets hold up much better than painted ones. Wood finish cabinets will take in stride the many dings that happen in working kitchens, while those episodes send their painted cousins in a tizzy, and only touch-ups settle them down. The novelty of cabinet touch-up soon wears off.

We might suggest that you go for a white that is in the countertops. We also might paint the walls, as they won't go with the new white painted cabinets.
