How to style around this carpet/colour scheme

Hi people!

I’m moving into a rental apartment in a couple of months and am struggling with the existing decor particularly in the living room (pictured with the current tenants’ furniture). Mostly, the colour of the carpet and the walls - beige has never really been my thing so I’m struggling with a colour scheme. Re-painting and changing the carpet are sadly not options however I am buying new furniture, just not sure what to go for!

What would you do/recommend with this space?

you can have lots of fun shopping for this room. big , bright, cosy.
rugs, cushions and curtains. It's going to look lovely. nice and bright room with that beautiful window. You enjoy shopping! ; )

Hello You are at the planning stages of your design, how exciting. Industrial is such a great look, when we design this type of scheme for our clients we like to mix industrial elements with period style. So crittal windows with Victorian style floor tiles. Or industrial light fittings mixed with squishy unpholstery pieces such as sofas and armchairs. This will help soften the overall aesthetic, which as you suggest can be hard if not balanced with softer elements. Take a look at some of our interiors projects for inspiration. Mixing period detailing and styles from different eras such as mid century, Scandinavean and 70's with classic industrial elements such as exposed bricks, metal detailing will give you a more interesting and original take on this style. Thanks ladies. I like monochrome neutrals, I just don't want the entire house in this scheme as it makes the place feel samey , colourless and therefore rather lifeless and dull. I am branching out since my post into this popular scheme that seems to be around atm involving sage mixed with dashes of muted blush and muted teal. This land of colour is a brave new world for me, ha !

You definitely have a mix of styles, but to me they look more conflicting with each other than creating an eclectic look (sorry). I'm seeing a mix of modern (the oak furniture), cottage (the sofa) and luxury (ceiling light, mirror). If I'm looking at your inspiration pics, I think you're leaning more towards classic/modern. Classic with no frills. A darker colour on the walls will definitely make the room more cosy. I'm thinking something like Mouse's Back (F&B) maybe? And another pink velvet sofa, but in a more modern, yet classic style (Made). Or a dark blue one (which looks good with a dark blue tiled fireplace) Anyway... see what you think?

I think the room would accept a host of decor styles as it’s so nice and neutral. You could get a grey or blue sofa and then add more colour with cushions and maybe a rug. Or a tan leather sofa and create a boho look. Only problem with putting a tv so high up is it can cause neck problems. A tv should be at eye level or lower when you are sitting down. The one in your picture is about right. Here are a few pics to inspire you. Note that the actual rooms are very plain and it’s the furniture and accessories that add the style and colour.

It's hard to tell on a photo, but it looks like the carpet is a dull orange/brown and the walls a sort of warm beige? If that is the case you can't fight it, you have to work with it. Dark inky grey or charcoal will help as this goes with both, then you could add accents of coral etc. Pinky terracottas will go with the carpet and dark grey will anchor it. Avoid yellows, pale greens and bright blues.

You need to add cool colour in your accessories to counteract all the warm colours currently present: beige and yellow. You can add a rug on top of the carpet too. If you go for Kilim or flat woven rug it look good on the carpet and will add depth and interest. Shop for blue, light grey and dark grey furniture and accessories. Add big leafy plants. If you can paint the fireplace charcoal to add depth to the room. You can add an electric fire also for visual interest. Placing the tv above fireplace is a good idea, but not everyone likes looking up at the tv. Some people find it difficult to watch. Maximise the potential of the window bay adding light translucent long curtains. You can add blockout roller blind for privacy at night if you need.
