New build house decoration
Comments (6)Our first house was a lot like yours, so I know what you're stuggling with. If you do want to change the wood finish (I assume its on window frames, doors and skirting boards?) be prepared for a hell of a lot of work. Its not simply a case of a quick paint job, it will all need sanding down evenly, then the right undercoat, etc. Unless you can do this or get down professionally, I would leave well alone. You do need to counter all that brown and not so much with just light colours - that way tends to just lead to a very light/dark slightly stark nineties look. As a professional designer (now, many years later, after art school etc) I would say, introduce colour. Cath Kidston would be an excellant way to go, also Pip Studios. I have seen her bright fabric curtains put in rooms with dark windows and they tend to then look retro rather than just old fashioned. Have a look on ebay for fabrics or curtains readymade. Collect pictures, think about the feel you're after, make a few moodboards, borrow or buy Cath Kidston books to get initial ideas. If you are imaginative, you are sure to make a much more creative scheme than starting from scratch with white paint. Use what you have already to work from and make something far more individual that still looks like its meant to all be together. Good luck!...See MoreKitchen layout advice needed
Comments (10)The layout of your new kitchen will depend on a number of factors, not least where the waste water from your sink, dishwasher and any other appliance that uses water, enters the drainage system. Moving any of these is not normally a problem but you may be restricted as to where certain appliances need to be positioned in the kitchen because of where the drains are. The usual method of planning a kitchen is to design the layout making sure you keep the distance between the key elements to a minimum. Having the food preparation area close to the sink, cooker and fridge will ensure you don't wear yourself out, running from one side of the room to the other. Without seeing the size and current layout of your kitchen, it is impossible to make any further, useful, suggestions. Choose your kitchen fitting company vary carefully and don't be shy in asking lots of questions, if they are any good, they should answer all your questions in detail. Hope this helps....See Moreliving room help continued
Comments (5)Hi there, you can achieve a more eclectic look but it is going to be time and investment here I am afraid as you essentially got three different styles going on already. The room at the moment is de fragmented. Gather up all your plants and put them in the corner next to the sofa first of all, we can add inexpensive lighting around your pots which will look fab at night. You have several stands that you maybe able to use some look too tall though. Absolutely agree with the last comment that trunk is a great coffee table. The mirror needs to be somewhere else how about your bedroom? On the wall behind the sofa you need a montage of pictures, mirrors throw in a shelf for good measure around the room and add interest too. The great thing is you can keep adding once you have established your enter pieces. You can go two ways either a working on the sofa and rug tones adding some old white and black would look fab or real splashes of colour would also look amazing The dining table is not right at all but I have some ideas for this As I have done here we added lighting to the bottom of the plants and just seen added a clip on light to that large canvas. Lots of cushions and throws will look great in here. Find a vintage mahogany drinks cabinet paint it black and put all your TV bits and pieces in there Would be happy to help you as a project...See MoreNeed Help with Living Room/ Dining Room/TV room
Comments (7)Hi Shanna, What a great space. If your mum is not afraid of colour I would certainly recommend some large pieces of art. Does your mum have a preference of the style she would like, rather than be dicated by the space ? I would love to help your mum create her idea space. You can check out my work at www.myclaybrickhome.com/case-studies We could start with a 2D floor plan to get the flow right and then start to build that out into a design. Drop me a reply or email to vicky@myclaybrickhome.com if you want to discuss further. This work can be done online. I am based in the UK but currently working on a ranch home in Dallas.
