Living room with lots of doors and big empty space - help!
Comments (25)Hi lovely space and I love the way natural light floods in. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Two rugs not one to add warmth and colour you could then have a smaller matching rug at the end of the room that you quite rightly call an empty space. 2. Consider using a bracket to move the television onto the wall. Your plan showing the TV on the right looks good but if you used that plan then the TV would look best above the fireplace...that may be too high for comfortable viewing though. 3. A floor lamp where the plant is would give light and extra interest to that far corner especially if the plant is large enough to be placed in front or slightly to one side of the lamp. 4. At least one other lamp table and lamp beside the sofa 5. The empty area....obviously tight for space when the French doors open into the lounge but you may be able to fit either a narrow console or a larger piece of art with a narrow shelf beneath to fill that wall. Coupled with the rug you will be surprised how that will be enough to allow freedom of movement through that space and yet make the room feel whole instead of in two parts. I like your mix of furniture style which makes it easier for you to consider using sites like Freecycle or Craig's list to acquire a few extra pieces without breaking the bank. And if hubby is good aT DIY a narrow shelf will be a doddle you could also check out Houzz for ideas how to make a large piece of art to go above it too...See MoreFilling that empty space
Comments (4)Hi Michtam, I see what you mean with the space and it does need something done to it. Have you thought about doing a gallery wall? You could go for a slightly retro theme as it seems to be what you like looking at the picture and leather armchair. Have a look at our article on Display Walls if you need help deciding what to do: http://www.hutsly.com/blogs/news/113311044-display-rules-ideas-to-create-the-perfect-gallery-wall I would personally go for all the same frames but in different sizes and find some retro pictures and Art to put in them. And maybe display them symmetrically so it doesn't look too crazy and random. If you do go for a gallery wall I would perhaps change the two lampshades that you have on the console as they are creating a strong contrast right now and you wouldn't need that if you already had a gallery wall so maybe lighter shades would be better then. I would also change the wall lights which are a bit blah We only have a few in our lighting section but they might take your fancy: http://www.hutsly.com/collections/lighting/ Hope that helps! Comments (2)I would start by thinking about what type of garden you are looking for, do you want to be weeding/adding new plants yearly? Do you have kids or pets if so you might want to think of raised beds. Are you looking for a modern style, more meadow/wild look, clean cut? What kind of house do you have? For example, modern garden might look odd with a Victorian house. What kind of soil do you have? (Chalky, sandy?). Does your garden get full sun/is it shady? Do you want grass or is it paved/has decking? Does it have any existing features to work from such as established plants/trees, raised beds?...See MoreWhat can I do with the empty space above the TV?
Comments (16)I would wall mount the screen and hide the wiring in the wall. If that’s not possible, how about having a taller unit? We’ve got so used to assuming a ‘tv unit’ is the only furniture we can mount a tv on we’ve forgotten there are other options. I’ve a wall mounted tv on a false chimney breast and the wires feed behind it to an Ikea Besta cupboard with a glass front to which I added some obscuring film so we don’t have to look at the ugly add-ons like the games console and the Sky box, whereas in my last home I could feed all the wires through the metal stud wall and wall mount everything...See MoreDaisy England
