Ideas needed for end of kitchen/nook

We did some major work/extension to our house (old council semi) a couple of years ago, but I have a couple of areas I still can't quite work out.
One of them is this one, the other end of the kitchen where the dining area used to be before we opened up the opposite side of the kitchen. It has a big north-west facing window that lets in lots of light, and is a lovely place to have my desk (I work from home a fair bit - eventually when my youngest moves out of the box room upstairs I will move it there, but won't be for a while). This chair is old and will be thrown out once I can figure out what to do with the area -

new nicer chair
eventually get a piano in there (would need to move the desk)
something else?

Sorry this is vague but I feel a bit stuck with this non-area!

It’s a really nice space with a scandi feel. I love the desk and the swivel chair, and the plants of course! You do need a more comfy chair, but you know that. Sounds like it will be a study/music room combined. How about a nice cosy rug? Would you consider changing the blind for a white painted wooden one? They can look very smart. Here’s a few ideas

Would it be possible to take down the wall between the kitchen and the unsued space and extend the kitchen out a bit? Or if not, put in an internal window sized opening with a counter top, barstools one side and worktop and cupboards on the kitchen side. Kitchen planners are usually free, I'd get them to look at what you can do with your space and even if you cant afford to do the kitchen now, at least you know what you can do with the space and work around that idea to get a long term picture. If you want to leave the walls as they are, how about buying a 6 cube IKEA Kallax Unit and putting it beside where you first walk in to create a small divider between the entrance and the dining room. As they are open shelving, it will still let the light through but create the illusion of a proper entrance way. You could even put the unit longways, so it is low and have a row of indoor plants along the top. Restaraunts often have to work with a large open space and make the illusion of entrance ways and separate areas so its worth keeping that in mind when you're out and about!

Hi. what sort off look are you after, modern, traditional. I think it would be lovely to pick up on the blue accents from your worktop into your units, with flooring slightly darker than oak; alternatively, a white gloss kitchen would look fantastic with dark flooring and using blues in accessories to then bring about colour. let us know how your project goes. all the best.

remove the wc, use the garage as shower/wc/utility (gets the noise and mess out of the way). This gives a large kitchen/dining. bi-parting pocket doors to the garden room to make it closeable as a teenagers escape/friends room yet when opened its part of the kitchen/dining. Sliding window to garden room, full width in 2 halves, full height glass, only one sliding. Put the whole unit on the outside of the wall to gain another 300mm in width. (I have detail for this), TV against window. Re-roof the garden room if possible or use a system that converts most of it into solid and insulated, so that its comfortable in winter. Change the living room so you can do a better furniture layout by moving the fire--use a stove with a cranked chimney (boxed in) back to the old fireplace. Whatever you do, put furniture on the plans to see if it works and if the space gains by eg an extension are any benefit--I suspect not. Don't cramp the garden corner. Light the garden at night so you don't need curtains and the rooms really feel like you are living in the garden. Its appears to have a good southerly aspect. Use an Architect! Even if only a few hundred pounds for some ideas.

I love the 'where do you keep your elbows' conundrum. ^^ It was great to see your layout because it was what I was thinking to try and reclaim some of the hall space. Danielle also captured the idea of switching the bathroom and the kitchen extremely well - and I really think this works too. I realise though that moving the door to the garden will involve a new set of stairs down to the garden - a big change, but perhaps minimises the changes to the internal walls as a balance. Jonathan's idea is also very creative - I had never even thought of this possible configuration. I realise as I am seeing these ideas that I'm more willing to give up some of the larger bedroom space as well, even if it off-sets the fireplace, to keep the idea of the wood burning stove as the heart of the flat. It may be that we are a small family of 3 and I'm thinking of this apartment as a family space, rather than for sharers. For sharers, maximum bedroom space is probably ideal... but for a family, at least in our case, we don't need much bedroom space. Also wondering about making the large bedroom smaller - to the edge of the fireplace to increase the bathroom. And moving the kitchen to the main living space... but not sure if this is overthinking things. And maybe Danielle above is the simplest option, even with replacing the stairs....

My vote too.

Get the piano in and create some hanging space for your guitar(s).

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>I like that, I should stop just looking at pianos online and actually get one!! The desk will have to move to where the old armchair is now, although it's super comfy it's also super tatty and old...
We have plenty of guitars in the house so will look good to have them all in one place too I think.
