Need some ideas for a very small office
Comments (10)Hello Mawlw, Yes storage in a small room can be tricky... If you have files and things... The last thing you want to do is have large pieces of furniture storing things... I would suggest putting a shelf all the way round the top of the wall but far enough from the ceiling height to allow for storing files etc... Paint the shelf white all the way around and even buy white files... Or boxes... that way you can store out of your eye view and still find what you need.. This free's up the space so you can make it appear bigger than it is... If the walls are not partition then you can add more weight just remember the raw plugs!!... Get really good brackets, Ikea do some lovely wooden ones No need to paint those.. I'd say 3 per shelf length of a m2 length & continue all round the walls to the window but not over unless there is the height above.... The other thing is that if you want a stylish office room. Get a good chair and you can get a table and shelf combo that leans up against the wall... See images... One of them is from Houzz! I love them both though... You get more floor space which in turn lends to a tranquil working environment... . : ))...See MoreI need some more ideas for extension layout
Comments (32)If you're still keen on a flexible-function room (i.e. where the middle internal space works as a guest bedroom or family space for example playroom, snug TV room, office, hobby room), my suggestion would be to use pocket internal doors; and/or glazed internal french doors. Then most of the time the doors can be open and part of the open-plan. Then when using the the space as a guest bedroom, the doors could have roller blinds or curtains, to separate the space and add privacy. Consider which way you want the "flexi room" to open up. Rather than open up to the side of the house (near proposed cloakroom); I think it would be nicer if the room opens into the back room or the front room (likely to be much nicer views and better light)....See MoreNeed some ideas for window treatments! I back onto floodlights.
Comments (5)I'm not sure where the floodlights are mounted, but I'm going to assume they come from the adjacent properties behind you and your garden. If that's the case, you could consider planting some fast growing specimen trees or bamboo to filter the light before it reaches your house. You could also tend the height of your fence by attaching some trellis and growing a creeper across it. In terms of window treatments, bespoke curtains would be the most effective at blocking the light but they would also spoil to beautiful architectural lines you have in those windows and block some of the view so I wouldn't recommend that solution. Consider instead, a black-out roller blind in the same colour as the window frame to hang directly in front of the horizontal part of the window frame. The part of the frame is high-enough to shield anyone in this room from direct lights from your neighbours....See MoreGarden design ideas needed for cottage garden
Comments (9)Love the frontage of your cottage. That wall is adorable! You have a couple of shrubs there already. Do you know what they are? There are some great low growing plants that need very little work once they are established. As well as T Gray‘s suggestions, you could also add Aubretia which is a low growing plant that has gorgeous purple flowers in spring. It’s very common and available everywhere. Campanula is a blue flower that cascades in summer (some are tall so read the labels). Another flower is Erigeron, again it spreads and is low growing with quite large purple daisy like flowers in the summer. My favourite is Geranium - they come in a huge array of colours and various heights so check those before buying. They flower in the summer. Don’t forget daffodils, such a ray of sunshine in the spring. They can be planted in the autumn. A lawn is a great idea - relatively cheap to lay too. I think the best way to have a low maintenance garden is to stick with trees and shrubs which dont need too much fussing with. Trees can be pricey, but so many places sell shrubs, not just garden centres, such as nurseries,, supermarkets and even car boot sales!
