Which paint colors did you use on the upper and lower cabinets?

Hi Holly

Thanks for your question. The upper cabinets have been handpainted in Strong White, by F & B, with Joa's White used on the lower cabinetry.

If you want to paint, paint. I think I'd agree with the people who suggest professional re spraying though unless you love diy and love the idea of being able to change the colour yourself relatively quickly. I recently painted a dresser (heavily stained and varnished wood, nowhere near as nice as yours) and a chest of drawers (bog standard orange pine) and unless you can take the wood right back it takes coats and COATS and a lot of patience to get a good finish. It is worth it though! Personally, I'd go for a greyish blue on the bottom half, White worktops, and paint the uppers the same white as the tiles (there's nothing intrinsically wrong with them, a classic choice that won't date). Put in a steel splashback behind the cooker (it should be possible to fit over tiles) to tone with your handles and a hard wearing natural fibre rug on the floor to break up the dark grey. A few wood accessories and the usual bits and pieces to finish.

Hi Nicky, my apologies I have only just seen your message. We went for cornforth white Farrow and Ball (which it definitely not white). The shutters are not back open yet but some of them will need to go back on because the large expanses of grey look very grey. The bits next to the white look less austere. The new white garage door with windows has made a big difference. I'd be careful with a very pale grey because if your windows are anything like mine you'll find that they are not actually that white after all....

Hi Tacey, The clean white form of the kitchen looks lovely, its a nice room. You definitely need lights above the wall units, this will bounce off the ceiling and into the room. At the risk of being too direct, throw the green paint away, you don't need it.. If you want colour in this room use the glass display cabinet and put some beautiful coloured glass in there. I sometimes put Japanese inspired flower arrangements on the middle of islands to add a modern structure and punch some colour in. The advantage to both of these methods is that you can change the colour scheme when ever you like. One idea that would transform the room: Put an American shutter up on the window. White with wide 80mm slats. Make sure the slat control is concealed, don't let them sell you a shutter with that awful rod down the middle. This will look amazing in this room. If you really fancy being adventurous mirror the window wall around the shutters above the splash back. You will need to make templates and have the mirror cut to those to ensure a perfect fit. Visually the room will double in size as your eye is tricked into seeing the furniture repeated as a reflection. A deep neutral colour rug to help bring the furniture together with a silver riveted metal coffee table and Tassimo (or similar) coffee machine. OrThis is a bit disjointed, I don't have decent soft-wear on my computer but you get the idea. Still a curve in the sofa for a cosy get together feel, solid colour designed chairs with metal and glass occasional table and a fluffy rug for that warm snuggly feeling under the toes.
