lighting size? opinions please

Hi,

I done some research on what size light fitting you should have depending on the size of your room. I worked out 24cm diameter. However will this measurement change if you have high ceilings? It seems quite a small light fitting and it might be fine for the size room with normal height ceilings but I wonder if it will look lost.
Plan to have a feather pendant light with a drop of 1.2m here are pics
In the room on the walls/ slope ceiling either side of A frame 1/3 away I have electrics for 2 spots. I have seen 2 gold spot lights ( will post pic in following comment) I love them but the purpose is to highlight the a frame. If you look at the spot lights they are not wide beam and wonder if they will be ok to serve the purpose of why we had the electrician put cables there.

I also would like opinion on lounge lighting. Big room but very different to upstairs- very low ceilings meaning I’m relying on 2 recessed spots either side of chimney, led lighting under mantle, 2 spot lights at other end of room on a beam and 4 wall lights. The wall lights need to be uplighters as the ceilings are low and as the room is long but not hugely wide they can’t stick out too much as they will not be above head height. I fell in love with some lighting by nigeltyras but can’t justify paying that amount for a light when I need 4 ( money is running out!) I can’t find anything else similar that I like but have found different lighting but am unsure so would appreciate people’s opinions. Pics will follow in comments.

Finally kitchen. I have a kitchen diner with a breakfast bar as well. We have a black granite work top. I wanted 3 pendant lights over island and 1 over table. I have decided on 2 options one has a black light one light pewter over island. Someone said I should avoid a dark light with a dark worktop so again thought on this will be appreciated again pics to follow

I think it's easier to work with what you have rather than ripping up carpet and tiles - the tiles are fairly actually very nice and fairly neutral so I wouldn't worry too much about them (and can always be covered by a rug or runner) and from a prctical point of view it's harder to cover up the carpet. The carpet looks like it has flecks of different colours through it so this would be a good place to start as a guide to your colour choices - have a look and see if they are e.g. more brown/ warm-toned or maybe grey/cool-toned flecks and then you can choose colours that have a similar tone - they don't have to match. It means that the carpet will blend in better. Even if you are going for whites there are lots of different tones and once you know what your limits are it will actually make decisions much easier! First thing i saw was where the handles are, why would they be in the middle of the door stile? the handle is to high for the wall units and to low for the base units. Apart from that if you have the space an inframe shaker kitchen can look stunning, but if its in a small kitchen with smaller sized units all the extra vertical lines due to the frames can look very busy. We have a wide range of inframe door styles from our door supplier Marpatt in their 'Infinite Inframe Collection' and they also have a flat door style inframe range (Horizon) which combines the classic design with a contemporay twist. The choice of worktop (a white sparkle quartz goes great with the grey) the style of the extractor and other accessories can really effect the final look you're after.

Update: we bottled out and went for traditional wooden gates in the end! We're delighted with them (and so is our dog who can see right through!). Took the advice to remove the pillar lights and placed uplighters at the bottom of the pillar and planted roses under them. As always, thank you for all your wonderful comments and help.

The kitchen lighting just realised that the picture of lights that go with each other is wrong. Not top two and bottom two. It’s right side and left side. I tried to match the shapes of lights so they had something in common
