Entry Chest?

Hello. I am a designer in North Carolina and some of my clients fell in love with this entry console chest. Can you share any additional info?

Unfortunately this piece was the clients own which they had procured a long time before we worked with them.

I think the option of having the tv under the stairs.. Is the best idea.. Maybe have a tv, media unit made to measure if possible .. Draws or cupboards underneath for storage. Small shelves at the sides for little ink-naks. If needed.. A smaller maybe glass oblong table in front of the window. The table will still allow light through.. Making sure passable through to the stairs.. And the sofa on the back wall.. Lovely rug in the centre with coffee table or chest for extra storage if needed... Maybe some open floating shelves off set above the sofa. Use an accent colour with accessories.. From the rug or cushions.. Don't go overboard with large piece of furniture... Simple statements....

I agree, the dining table and chairs are OK where they are; the problem seems to be with the sitting area. You should definitely bring in some plants and artwork/ photos. Perhaps put a 'gallery wall' of photos or art above where the sofa is currently. I would put low bookcases or perhaps a console table with lamps in against the walls in this corner and 'float' the seating furniture out, away from the walls. It may seem counter-intuitive but sometimes floating furniture more into the middle of an area can make it seem bigger, even if it means you can't walk straight through in a beeline to the kitchen. I think the main problem with the space is that the large through-way is actually dominating the space and making the centre of the room feel vacant. Experiment with rearranging the sofa and chairs to see what works best. Be bold and bring it right out into the middle and, if that doesn't work, take it further back. You may be surprised at what works well. It's also nice to put the sofa and chairs sort of facing each other (you could angle the chairs a little if you like. You could even angle the sofa!). I read somewhere recently that if furniture is placed in a 'conversational' position, it will seem more inviting and will encourage sociability.

I hadn't initially spotted the trunk, it looks quite slim and should hopefully work in that you can move around it plus it brings furniture into the middle of the room. In terms of the sofa my first choice would be green if you want a colour rather than a neutral and it looks as if you like that colour anyway! I think a chair could possibly work either to the left or right of the fire. It's hard when you have furniture in a room but cutting out paper templates of everything or using cardboard boxes always works. At least the tv isn't taking up room :) good luck in whatever you do, it really is a lovely room

Thanks for responding to soon, all! To respond to each in turn: Daisy - I definitely agree regarding the chair - just need someone to take the thing off me. The headboard is an issue as it holds the bed together so not sure how smooth replacing it could be. It seems all agree regarding the pictures so down they will come. Leaning towards the curtains, too. Thank you! Jen - The feature wall and knitted throw is a common theme so something I'll look to invest in! Just a case of what way to go with the feature wall and how to have the other walls tied in to it. Hmmm Minnie - as always, thank you. I actually looked at Hague blue but thought it was just too dark, although I'm torn again after seeing that picture. I might get some samples, as I like the contrast and it goes with a few ideas I saw. I had been thinking about a colour more like the one at the top of this post (which I can't move for whatever reason), which isn't too far from Hague blue (not sure of the exact colour right now but recall seeing it). I assume you'd move the bed closer to the window to allow more space with the drawers being by the door. The table by the bed wasn't the best as it's so high and the bed is rather low - to be honest I'll likely move the console table out the room at some point; not decided yet. I need to get a pendant light but figured I'd get it once doing the bigger things - the current light shade is looking very sorry for itself. A mirror does need inserting (something my girlfriend reminds me of weekly) - would you say a full-length onejust to the right of the wardrobe entrance? Your colour scheme - with the greys and mustards - sounds good, too!
