Please help with the layout of my loving/dining room
Comments (1)Hi Tavolla, As you didn't provide much information, I thought I would give you a creative layout to help you think outside of the box a bit. Your living and dining rooms are very "normal" layouts in the UK and many people tent to be very unimaginative when positioning furniture and laying them out ;-) Also, I don't know anything about you or your family and usually I woudl want to know how you live before providing a layout for anyone. But I thought, no-one had given you any help yet, so why not just do a fun sketch! I also don't know your level of knowledge or design aesthetic, so please don't be offended if I explained the obvious ;-) So here is your quick layout sketch. I hope it will help you set up a lovely home. My only other note, is if you plan on hanging pendants above the table like I have drawn, ensure that they align with the centre of the opening to the living room or very obviously off centre, so that they don't look like a mistake. Be deliberate with your choices and have a good reason behind their placement. If you chose this kind of layout, the lights and the table will "steal the show", so if it were me, this is where I woudl invest my money, as they will be visible from 3 rooms - all of the time. I'd love to see photos of your finished room! Jo x...See MoreHouse layout - help please!!!!
Comments (8)Thank you very much Jonathan. In response to your questions- 1. The extension slightly goes out by a metre at the lower end because i have permission to build that far and I thought it would be useful to incorporate that space. i could shave that bit off, currently the kitchen measures 6x9.4m. 1.I moved the stairs because I wanted to incorporate the staircase space into the frontroom. This way I get a wider guest room about 3.1m wide instead of 2.3 m wide, plus i get a decent sized bedroom on the first floor. 3. I could just make the living room wider and put a siding door in between on days I want to make the living area feel more like a ‘snug’. 4. The purpose of the extension is to get an additional room upstairs, a guest room downstairs with private ensuite, library/study, downstairs toilet and more spacious open plan kitchen diner. 5. Budget is an important question! Any suggestions to reduce costs but create the same effect would be very welcome.! And yes, I will be working with a concept planner to visualise it all. Thank you....See MoreDining room layout

So either big enough for all four legs of the chair to sit on or small enough that the back legs don't snag, but not so small that the front legs snag. Does that make sense? I would go with a flat weave for practical reasons. The indoor/outdoor rugs are very practical with kids. The sofa rug needs to be big enough for all the seating to be overlapping some part of it and a bit of it should stick out past the sofa towards the dining table but not so much that the bench catches on it. Because there's a walk way there I would again go for a flat weave. Something with a very low profile or at least a low profile edge. We have one in our hall and one in our living room, both are walked "over" i.e. you have to cross the entire rug to get to the other side. We've never had any accidents or trips, but if your worried then consider sticking down the edges that face the doors. Buy artwork in lockdown?! With all this free time? You just need some art supplies and a few Bob Ross videos! Anyway with all the painting you've done recently, artwork should be a piece of cake!...See MoreLiving room layout help please
Comments (4)good idea, here’s a few photos that were on my phone. As you can see it all needs updating/redoing etc. the sofa is actually broke and the chair belonged to my dad when he was unwell and I plan to sell it cheaply or donate to someone who needs a rise and recline. im unsure about structural changes, whether I will knock the kitchen and ‘dining room’ (which I’m using as an office currently) into one. depends on budget. I like the idea of a combined social area, but I hate noise and not sure I want to sit in kitchen as such. But for now my next room is this living room. But i do need to consider whether I have a Door into the dining room, or if I do make it one kitchen/diner I wouldn’t need a door really as the one into the kitchen would suffice. so difficult! Because I don’t have a massive budget. And as you can see everything is in need of updating. the kitchen is the same as it was in 1986, and too embarrassing to show photos of....See MoreRoger Connolly
