Our new kitchen
Comments (22)I think that is a lot better. YAY! You'll get good flow from the utility straight into the kitchen with your shopping bags, coats, etc. and it looks like there'll be enough space in the "extended hall" to use it constructively. I do have a couple more questions/suggestions: - The doorway from the utility with the fridge next to it - if the fridge door is open, you won't be able to get through. Also, because the area next to the fridge is all wall cabinets, you might have the "where do I dump things?" issue. I would put another counter on the left wall between the two banks of cupboards. It'll probably only be two or three cabinets and counter, but I think it'll be handy. OR you could put the FF there. - I'd centre the hob on the island, but I think that is a good spot for it. - The other thing is something One Plan raised - walk in pantry? You could have part of the utility dedicated to this, or do you think you'll have enough food storage with the wall cupboard near the ovens (I assume this will be a pull out number as these are really handy to be able to see everything....See MoreNeed suggestions how to give the front of our 1970's house a facelift!
Comments (10)You've done a lovely job on the back extension, which seems to be a totally different property from the front. The trick would be to alter the front, making it more modern and in keeping with your new extension. 1. Replace the windows with more modern ones like at the rear. You'll probably find that the small upstairs window is on a landing and there isn't room to make it bigger. If there is room to the left of the front door as you face the house from the street, consider making this a floor to ceiling glass window and glass door combination http://www.urbanfront.co.uk/images/doors/Image/clearglass_jpg.jpg . The upstairs window should be aligned to the glass window below it. Match the front door to the garage door. http://www.thegaragedoorcentre.co.uk/UserFiles/Image/Hormann%20Front%20entrance%20Doors/anthracite_300.jpg The entrance porch roof can be replaced and extended across the front, up to the left hand window, with glass and steel similar to the lantern on the back extension. Lastly, the front could be landscaped with a path from the driveway through a contemporary, low maintenance garden. Since you have several Mediterranean type plants, you might consider that kind of look. Include a specimen tree to the far left and lose the overgrown shrub near the driveway....See MoreWhite fence..did we make a mistake? Help!!!
Comments (8)Wow thank you so so much! This is beyond helpful! I think I will be able to sleep tonight (last two nights were just crazy-can't stop blaming myself for ruining our fence!) :) Appreciate the design pictures too! Love the idea of mix of the various flowers with trees, but I think we will need to paint all of the fence white now, as it will look unfinished?! The right side of the garden is south facing, so fence is faded brown (golden) and we have a shed there. Planning to buy another one and paint them in grey or so..to match the theme and make this garden cute! Our left fence is north facing, so it is still quite dark..so we need to make all of them match perhaps and then plant shady plants on the left, mix at the back and sun lovers to the right. Great idea with the oval shape! Need to think about the bloody slope.. it starts approx 1.5m from the back fence and slopes by approx 0.5m, so not too bad..but I hope the ground wont slide and plants will be able to grow there, otherwise I'm gonna be devastated. I will keep you posted as soon as we make some progress!...See MoreDesperately trying to not extend!
Comments (5)Is it a loadbearing wall? Do you have a floorplan of both floors? And a photo of the back exterior? Hoe deep is your garden and what direction? Are those window&slider somewhat in the current location? Do you have enough space for shoes, coats and such? And what's the depth of the kitchen, as the measurements are hard to read. So many questions ;) Personal example: My 50s house is 'just' 6.5x6.5m plus a mudroom extension (nearly 3x3m). Would not want to live without anymore, as it houses washing machine, fridge freezer, oven (kitchen itself is 2.35m), all shoes and coats, plus keeps out the cold when entering the house. We took out the middle wall as we preferred an open plan, more light as well. My son (6) has enough space in his bedroom for a desk and when he does need help with homework, we'll sit at the dining table....See MoreJonathan
