Flooring to match an oak staircase

We are in the middle of a house renovation which is exciting but daunting. We have committed to buying an oak staircase and are now wondering what floor to get? Oak to match or will this be too much wood if we also have oak doors? Or an engineered wood or Amtico to contrast? I would love a white oak Amitco or engineered wood but not sure it will go with the stairs. We are planning to have the same floor through out the downstairs.

Any advice is appreciated!

I'd say oak on oak would be a bit much. Pattern flooring ie herringbone/chevron ect seems to go nicely with oak staircases. A white oak herringbone I think would finish it off beautifully.
You could have the herringbone moving into straight plank in the other rooms if it would be too much to do it all over.

Pics below don't have an oak stair case but i think the colour would work

I'd combine oak with oak, but most likely not the white oak as it will most likely make a natural oak staircase/door look orange. But then again:

In terms of the furniture you just want something in a colour to offset the floor ie darker wood, white/black lacquer or gloss or painted furniture. It's a good idea to tie the colours into the rooms. Have a look at farrow and balls grey colours and their colour suggestions. Maybe elephants breath in the hall and a light grey in the lounge with a darker shade in the dining room. You could also try a feature wall in a darker shade if wanted. (Do make sure the rooms have enough light to carry the grey though) Go for a darker grey sofa and maybe try either white, silver and black accessories and furniture. Or if you want it warmer add pale pinks or mauves but don't have more than 60% of the rooms in grey. Try a large drum or sphere pendant or chandelier for the ceiling and add a statement floor lamp in each room ie arc, angle poise or tripod/movie. If you add table lamps keep them simple as the room may not take 3 statement lights. Hang the light low over the dining table and you could also try the same with a chair or sofa. Unfortunately I can't find pics that tie this all in together. Do have a look at the website madeaboutthehouse and their 50 shades of grey which may give you ideas.

Hi Claire, what is the floor construction on the floor is it joists? there are different options and I have many years experience of dealing with these types of projects. If you are not sure then take up a section and check whats underneath the floorboards. I haven't checked on the plan yet with regard to sqm of area, however I would be wary of electric underfloor heating as the running costs are extremely high unless you have solar panels.
