Need design advice - awkward lounge!!!
Comments (11)I totally hear what you're saying but how often do you use the dining room at present? Is it only for occasional use? I would have a tv room in the dining room. You can have an l shaped sofa in the bottom right and chair in top right. I'd have a big dining table in the existing lounge (with a chair in one of the corners) and swap your existing breakfast table for a bench or sofa (with a slim table if it fits) and add a tv on the wall (if wanted), it's difficult to say without seeing the rooms but I think if you have an open plan living/dining/kitchen area plus the tv room you will use the whole of the floor space and it will be a sociable space. As the Existing lounge doesn't have windows it kind of makes sense to use this for dining which is typically at night. If you're really not keen on that, then maybe a small sofa on the existing right wall of the lounge with tv in top left but I'm struggling with your 4 seating positions for the tv without blocking the kitchen or french doors. Sorry it sounds as if I'm totally ignoring what you've said!...See MoreHelp needed please for living room makeover
Comments (10)I think you can definitely go for dark walls. I had an East facing sitting room and painted it navy. It was still surprisingly very sunny in the morning and cosy. The only thing to keep in mind that you'll need to a good lighting design scheme to have enough light later in the day and to be able to create the right mood. In terms of furniture layout, it'd be good to draw it and see what can be done. The positioning of the sofas seems less than ideal for sitting on them in a group and chatting as it looks almost like 2 separate spaces. You could also add some storage for toys and grown up bits....See More1950's fireplace
Comments (31)Your house looks lovely, I really like all the original doors and panelling. I can see that you wouldn't want to style everything in a 1930s way, but understand matching/complementing the colours of the fireplace are quite restrictive too! I would try a few testers of browny-toned greys for the walls to get the fireplace to blend in rather than stand out. I couldn't live with a brown and cream room but suggest something like F & B 'light grey' or 'old white' might work. I have a room in F & B 'cord' which is very easy to live with and would work. As for furniture.... I think you can go modern for an eclectic look but just be careful of the colours so you don't get a horrible clash....See MoreLiving Room Ideas WANTED
Comments (3)Hi there. You have a very decent sized room to work with here. The first that I always tell people who are looking to incorporate a fireplace into their living room, is to decide if they want to make the fireplace the focal point of the room and then design around it. If that's the case, then pick out your fireplace and decide on it before you go ahead and pick design style and colours. The beauty of the colour grey is that it compliments practically everything. It's a good neutral colour like black and white. I would advise having a feature wall painted grey and the rest white, to ensure that natural light isn't diminished in the room....See MoreE D
