Dated glass partition - what to do with it!

I'm buying a new house and between the hallway and living room there is a very dated glass partition, I can't stand it! I don't want to remove it completely because then the downstairs bathroom would be in the living room. Any advice would be amazing, TIA :)
I have put a picture in the comments of what it looks like.

You just get a glazier to replace the glass with something you prefer. Beware that much glass will cost hundreds to replace

Hi Eileen, There are a number of options you can do to your stairs to update the look. As you have what is classed as a "diminishing" staircase, glass with oak would be a good option to open it up and create more light. I have attached a picture so you can see an example of a similar diminishing staircase in oak and glass. Alternatively go for a plain square or stop chamfered spindle in either oak or white primed. You may feel there is too much Oak if you are having oak flooring, so having everything in white with a contrasting handrail in oak could be an option to tie it in with the flooring. Are fan lights dated/naff?

In the summer we visited relatives in their new house which has a run of bifold doors across the back of their new home. We sat in the kitchen, which is very stylish etc. etc. and enjoyed having the doors fully opened as the heat was uncomfortable indoors once the sun came out. They're now finding (autumn) that they have to open one of the doors to get fresh air into the room and, on a rainy day, it's not ideal. It's going to be interesting to see how they'll fare during the winter. Imagine having to have a door open when it's cold outside just to let in some fresh air. On top. Of all this their dog wanders in and out when the doors are open....... Fan lights still have their uses in my opinion.

Thanks guys... don't think I could paint the beams the just add too much to the house! I'd also be shot by my fiancé! but I can Def see the way it opens up the room! will hopefully get some before and afters when Complete! x

Kitchen-dining partition

I want to partition the kitchen from the dining. As together, not a big area, don't want to make it look any smaller with a solid wall partition. Looking for other partition material, which may be easy to install and it it can provide additional storage (cupboards), would be great. Hence the max. 10 inch thickness for partition.

I presume from what you say replacing it with clear glass also wouldn’t work in terms of privacy in the bathroom?

I guess options are to replace with different more modern obscure glass or to fill in the glass so it’s just a normal wall.

But then of course you may lose all natural light in that room.

I’d just get a builder in and replace it with a wall and door... you could do Glazed doors, double doors ... keep it open and light

I wonder about having the glass removed and have statiomary Venetian blind. Not the kind you can pull up and down, or use like shutters.

So you can switch them to let light and airflow but switch shut for privacy. And it'll have the feel/visual of plantation shutters.
