Comments (66)Hi All, Here's an update. The hedges have settled in nicely over the last 4 years (has it really been that long already?!) They had a trim at the weekend, not the best time of year to cut Phontinia I know, but they had gotten a little out of control.. I intend to add a gate over the next few months and continue to plant the beds along the house. They currently have hydrangea and French lavender plants (oh and the odd azalea) in them but need more. Also going to plant a border of box around each of the beds the trees on the lawn are in - hence why these look a little scruffy at the mo.. I've considered growing something on the walls, but still not sure what or how. Each summer I add two hanging baskets either side of the front door - which help break it up a little. Still very much a work in progress (aren't they always ;-) ) but I like it. Thanks for all the comments, ideas and suggestions - much appreciated!...See MoreThis or that - wooden floors or carpet?
Comments (30)Carpet for sure! As champions of carpet, here’s our top five reasons why you should have it in the home: 1. It’s warm – When the mornings are cold, nothing beats the feel of a soft and snuggly carpet on icy toes. Coming in to a warm and welcoming house is the pinnacle of luxury. More people are now turning their back on the cool, sleek look of laminate flooring, for the natural warmth of carpet. Home owners are realising that in rooms such as the lounge, bedrooms and hallway, carpet really is the only option. 2. It’s easy to clean – While you do need to whip the vacuum cleaner over your carpet, there is little other maintenance compared to the upkeep of hard wood floors or laminates. And if you buy one of our easy clean ranges (Sensation, Apollo and Primo collections), cleaning becomes less of a chore - plus you have the added reassurance of a 10 year stain and wear warranty. The key to good carpet maintenance is to vacuum once or twice a week, use a large doormat and avoid laying light coloured carpets next to external entrances. 3. It’s quieter – Forget footsteps clacking against wooden floors, a large surround sound system vibrating or noisy children playing upstairs, one of the major benefits of having carpet in the home is that it absorbs sound. Not only does carpet absorb up to 10 times more sound than hard flooring but it generates less too. 4. It’s good for allergies – Over the decades studies have shown that carpet reduces the number of allergens in the air as compared to hard flooring. Carpet prevents allergens from becoming airborne by trapping them in the fibres of the carpet, helping to keep them out of the air and out of your lungs. Vacuuming the carpet then removes the trapped allergens completely. 5. There’s more choice – Carpet is super versatile. Fancy a more rustic look, opt for a textured loop pile. Want a deep snuggly pile, seek the super soft lustrous carpets out. And when it comes to colour, you can choose to play it safe with neutrals and cool greys or be bold with dark statement inky blues or even stripes! Any style you want to achieve can be done with carpet. Visit our site for more carpet advice and inspiration: www.cormarcarpets.co.uk...See MoreDo you like the distressed look?
Comments (38)Im a big fan of old and new. Apart from being an interior photographer im also a joiner. I hate seeing ol timber being burnt or thrown out. Theres more reclaimed timber in my store than new. If i can send a pic of this table made from partly roting oak and pine i will. I made oak legs and frame with pine top still with stains and lightly rubbed out Dinks. So yeah rustic or shabby....im in. Not sure on the rug!!...See MoreGarden help!
Comments (9)Hello Gemma, I think the garden is charming.. I would keep the bamboo as it offers some contrast... You could easily bring the beds to life.. One of my favourites would be lavender and rosemary buy some rosemary and lavender from a supermarket even and stuff them into the beds in a pattern of your choosing and then add the lavender too ... You may hate them both but bees love them and rosemary makes a fantastic bush and also fantastic for cooking... ... Have a little french table and chairs and voila... You could add a wisteria to grow up the pipe and round the doors... Think it's lovely indeed and do keep the steps .. :))...See MoreDaisy England
