A trend that should end
Comments (1300)For me it’s maximalism. Lovely in a quirky cafe or boutique hotel but at home it would give me a headache. I like a restful house and so yes quite a lot of it is grey! Not battleship grey or anthracite but bluey or greeny greys. Concrete floors. Depressing, cold, ecologically not great, look unfinished. Plants very high up. How do you water them? Walk in wardrobes even if it means the bedroom becomes tiny. I’d rather have a bigger bedroom with wardrobes in it, than dress and sleep in tiny spaces. Uber industrial. There’s a reason we usually hide cables, conduits, vent ducts...because they are ugly. Buying new furniture and accessories very often to have an “up to date“ look. I see all these instagram pictures with everything brass, mid century, wood, rattan, green (today’s trends) and I wonder what has happened to all their grey, painted, silver, shabby chic items from 5/10 years ago. And what will they do with today’s items when the look swings round again......See MoreWhat's your design pet peeve?
Comments (98)mrshste ... and I thought I was alone in disliking en suites for the same reason! I said this to a real estate agent yesterday and he looked totally confused ... like I was a martian from another planet ... it did make me laugh. I also agree with you re modern bland supposed minimalism ... although I love the original concept of minimalism which was anything but bland or even very white....See MorePOLL: Curtains or Blinds?
Comments (83)Totally agree with VLS Curtain Makers Ltd. Whether you choose curtains or blinds to dress a window they should be what you like and want, suit the property and your lifestyle. I have clients with pets who would rather have a blind so that the fabric doesn't get covered in dog hair, whereas other clients prefer to have curtains trailing across the floor simply because they like the look and it suits how they live and the style of the property as well as their other furnishings....See MorePelmets, are they in or our?
Comments (21)Controversially, I think they are in, for certain rooms ( big windows, high ceilings) and certain looks ( boho, maximalist, steam punk, whimsical). Check out House of Hackney for old school chintzy style done in an edgy way. it's not for everyone but I like elements of it. I have a load of pelmet fabric, already swagged with attached tassly fringes, which came with my second hand curtains. The curtains are up and the pelmets will be once I summon the strength. Whole house renovation is an absolute time sucker. I have about a dozen ongoing diy jobs on at the moment and now I have a living room Netflix is soo tempting... the pics are a bit rubbish as I'm still considering the curtains a work in progress. The left ones still aren't hung correctly. Plus, it's not hugely obvious but the curtains are cobbled together from two pairs, hence horizontal seam halfway down....See MoreE D
