sliding doors aren't weatherproof?

We have been hovering between sliding and bifold doors in our extension, which will have an engineered wood floor. However, we have now been advised that sliding doors have to be flush with the floor and aren't weatherproof, so driving rain can ruin the wooden floor; whereas bifolds can be built with a lip to prevent this happening. Has anyone else come across this?
