Oak Floors and grey walls - Living room

What is everyone's thoughts on oak floors with white high gloss skirting, oak doors and painted grey walls in the living room? We have high ceilings with a beautiful corniness. I'm worried that the living room won't be cosy. I have seen a lovely grey/armoured couches and a midnight blue bucket chair that I like as well.

We are going to have the same flooring and colour of walls in the hall, living room and the dining room.

Originally we liked walnut, however, i've been told that can make your rooms look smaller and also its harder to maintain especially if it gets dented. I'm just worried that oak won't make the house look cosy.

Oak can be stained in so many different colour, some also looking vaguely similar to walnut. Mind you although oak is harder than walnut, it can be dented too.

depending on the look of the room it may be preferable to have a lighter floor

Do you have photos of everything youre planning? Oak will add warmth to the room. It also depends on what you add for accessories as different textures/materials, layered lighting, plants, books etc will give a cosy feel.

Walnut may make the room feel smaller if there's a lot of contrast with the walls and skirting boards. I've had/have oak and walnut floors and tbh haven't seen a difference in denting? Grey paint may also not work for all the rooms assuming they're a different orientation Etc? Maybe you can add more details and photos

Hi Natalie, Black, white and grey schemes can be very calming and sophisticated thanks to the retrained palette. Be careful not to use greys that have a very cool (blue) base, as they can make a room feel cold and unwelcoming. Try neutral greys. Hi. Have you considered blush pink and copper? Or you could look at yellows or warm greens. Any colour will go but based on your idea book you like grey rooms so it would be nice to choose a warm colour as an accent colour. Have you also considered a wood floor or perhaps karndean wood effect? Choose wall colour last unless you want to use wallpaper as there are thousands of paint colours so will always find something to complement. Do you have any art that you could pick out colours to complement or have you seen a nice fabric/cushion?

In my opinion it is the saturation level of the paint that is the problem. The beauty of your kitchen is the natural flooring and the wooden worktops, it looks earthy. This is swamped by the blue paint, it just looks wrong. Without seeing the cupboard door colours close up it is tricky but I would suggest looking for something a bit darker than the cupboards but with the same hue. If you want a strong contrasting wall a deep olive green would work as it would balance the wood and the purpley greys.

I think there are so many options there... wood can be many different shades and can add warmth, there are also many different shades of grey that can be warmer or cooler in nature.

Similarly I think the types of lights and warmth rating of them , lamps etc that you have in a room when it's dark outside make a massive difference
