Kitchen flooring choice, help please
Our renovation is coming along nicely.
We have knocked together the kitchen and dining room to create one space, measuring roughly 6m x 5m.
The kitchen is arriving this weekend and we hope it is fitted end of next week.
Dark charcoal shaker kitchen. Tall units, base units and island. Light (white) worktop - not chosen it yet but it will be light to contrast with the dark units. Walls will all be white. See pics for the room.
Flooring - new flooring will run through from the front door through the hallway and into the new kitchen/diner.
We do want a wood (look) real wood/lvt/ no idea. Have never bought flooring other than carpet before!
We considered Karndean, someone is coming out to measure for it tomorrow.
We have 2 young children, we want something that will not scuff/scrape easily. Something low maintenance.
We would happily go up to around £70 per sq m, if that was including fitting.

Idea of layout of kitchen, dining table near the doors. Doors 3.4m wide, 2 pane slider.
It will be a simpler version of below, without the wall units. I do want a warm feel with wooden floors though

Comments (8)I have high end expensive laminate on my floor. It wasn't much cheaper than using wood but I was talked into it as being more practical. Its been a nightmare. With wood on the floor you would drop a bowl, it would smash and you be left with a dent in the floor but that becomes part of the character of the floor. With laminate you drop a bowl it chips the glaze and tears the photo underneath and you're left with a light coloured chip in the floor which really shows up and looks rubbish. Don't go for laminate. If I could rip ours out I would but its only been down for two years and it runs underneath the kitchen cabinets. Comments (12)You don't state if you are planning to keep the existing worktop and tiles. If these are to remain I would consider replacing Welvet with Strong White ( this works really well in a smaller spaces with dark worktops) for the ceilings and woodwork, use the Ammonite on the walls with Oval Room Blue on the cupboards and Worsted on the floor. Or if you prefer a more versatile more neutral approach which allows you to change accent colours without a major rework you could paint the floor using F&B Railings ( or use a similar colour stain to show the wood grain through which would add some interest) and paint the cupboards either Cornforth white or Purbeck stone. 4 years agoYes, wood effect porcelain tiles are another option, I've used them a few times. They can be cold though without underfloor heating. I've used them a few times. Ref laminate being noisy - I think it comes down to the quality of the laminate and the quality of the underlay.

4 years agoHi Ellie, popped round to my sisters today and took a couple of pics. This is her porcelain floor in a rich chestnut shade. Kitchen still needs wall tiles and painting but I think it’s looking pretty good so far!
