awkward loft room door to main bedroom
Comments (40)We did look at doing that originally with the aechitext but the upstairs has an open staircase so it cuts up a lot of room and would cost hundreds to stud it all out and put in and plaster the walls and put windows in :0( Plus I have a dressing area at the top of the landing where a window is ( the only window light that could come from upstairs is a north facing side window) so I might lose some of this. Overall it wouldn’t give us anything except showing the stairs in the hallway ie no cloakroom and a smaller upstairs with a lot of cost. We understand the hall is small and that’s just as the house was built so it’s one of those things. It’s just trying to use what is there as my OH wont spend any extra on things he deems aren’t fundamental now, lol....See Morelighting bottom steps
Comments (13)Hi. We have a dark corner in our hallway where the coats are kept just by the cellar door. We have a lamp on a table and use the Philips Hue motion sensor so the lamp comes on f we walk close by it and we have set it to stay on r 1 minute. (brightness controlled via app and can be different day and night)- you could consider this for your lamp whilst you decide on the stairs. I think they also do led strip lights you could also set to the sensor. you do need the bridge too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Indoor-Motion-Sensor-Synthetics/dp/B0748NCMNW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?adgrpid=56044145994&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0-zr9Lep5QIVh7PtCh1YpgTqEAAYASAAEgJpB_D_BwE&hvadid=259034827583&hvdev=t&hvlocphy=9045060&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=14660494005649228727&hvtargid=aud-615477028278%3Akwd-364739279517&hydadcr=20242_1749850&keywords=philips+hue+sensor&qid=1571526367&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyWVVZMkJISU9YRVVPJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTUxMzYyMlVSUTIySjdORlM1TyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMjk5MDYwMzVKNEVUWEJDVTlJTSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=...See MoreCommunicating with architect - Our awkward house.
Comments (47)You can't have folding doors over a staircase!😆 I'm beginning to understand the problem here. You shouldn't be "totally stumped" on anything. That's the architects job! You just need to take your wishlist and suggestions to him/her. They will do a number of amendments until you are happy with the result. You can do some simple sketches but generally speaking you just need a bullet point list of things you don't like about the current design. Coming up with the solutions is the architects job. There's no point paying them if you're going to do the work for them. Everything else is in place and you've done the right thing by choosing them based on their previous work. It just seems like they might be a bit busy and aren't able to offer the amendments quicker. A professional firm will have already budgeted in the amendments so they don't lose anything by changing the design for you. I don't think they are trying to fob you off. The amendments will always be limited by budget, planning permission, health & safety and site conditions etc. If you really aren't happy with their service maybe consider taking what you have and speak another architect. The current firm have done all the hard work so the new firm won't have to do much to tweak the design....See MoreAwkward space advice
Comments (1)In think, we could do with a few more images of the space if you have some, please? It's hard to understand what you would like to achieve and what this space is in relation to your home. Looking at that image alone I would say to brick up the bottom for a decent storage arrangement (have you thought what you would need to store there?) and then a clear glass window at the top for some light - but without seeing more angles I don't know what impact that would have. Maybe you're best to just go bold. block up the whole thing and have wall to ceiling storage for impact - works with a moodier color pallet and storage of books would look good. Best, Gina...See Moreciardan
