Problems with website search

First apologies that this is not a design dilemma, or if it is then only for the website designers. But I have posted twice to the Using Houzz board and it has not appeared either time. I am keen to find out whether that applies to any board or just that one. I would also be interested to learn whether anyone else has seen this problem with the search function on the website. To reproduce this try:

Browse to www.houzz.co.uk

Enter something into the search bar at the top. Say, 'Kitchen Islands' and select 'Kitchen Islands in Photos'

You should get lots of pictures of kitchen islands. Top title displays something like '1,377,809 kitchen islands Home Design Ideas, Pictures and Inspiration'

Filter by selecting a location - any location will do. Top title displays something like '471 kitchen islands Denmark Home Design Ideas, Pictures and Inspiration'

Now do another search, say 'Kitchen Taps' and select 'Kitchen Taps in Photos'

You should get lots of pictures of kitchen taps. Top title displays something like '30,956 kitchen taps Home Design Ideas, Pictures and Inspiration'

Filter by selecting a location - any location will do. Top title displays something like '45,466 kitchen islands Australia Home Design Ideas, Pictures and Inspiration' Note that it is now showing kitchen islands and not kitchen taps.

Filter by a different country. Top title now displays something like '851 kitchen taps New Zealand Home Design Ideas, Pictures and Inspiration'. Note that the search has now changed back to kitchen taps.

This is repeatable and not dependent on the search terms or locations selected.

I have to be honest in saying that Houzz is not one of the best websites I’ve used. It even makes its own words up and plonks capitals where I’ve not typed them in or used them before.

Posting images on the other hand is a whole new ball game.

This problem only seems to affect country/area filtering not the others, probably because the others have a direct link within the filter. Would be interested to know whether anyone else sees this problem or whether it is unique to my setup.

I cannot even find an email address use to inform the development team of problems like this and there is little evidence that House staff frequent these forums except to push their latest 'stories'

But it is telling how many of the jobs ads are for sales and marketing jobs rather than website development.

Hi there, It looks like the issue is that it is not appearing on the homepage of the site, but rather on the practice page. In order for it to register in the system, it must be on the same url homepage that is listed in your profile.

Hi csg1 - I'm in nearly the same position. First house I own, Victorian Terrace and I'm looking for prints / art to stick on the wall. There's nothing wrong with Ikea or other large retailers but a lot of their stuff is a bit obvious for me (of course it's designed to appeal to a wide audience) and reminds me a bit to much of furnished rental homes. As Lampert Dias says it does depend on where you are - I'd check out what artists you have locally (through galleries or open studio events) but try to see if you can buy from them direct. Artists like Julia Dumbarton that I like often produce their own prints and frame them for you - they're not a lot more expensive than the big retailers. If you're in the UK then you can also check out the National Galleries and Societies, many of them have their own cutom print facilities. Tate Galleries, The National Portrait Gallery, Royal Society (scientific prints from them are great of birds, plants, butterflys etc.) or the prints from national collections of photography, science and society. Then the other day I found the Saatchi Art website which has new artist collections. The originals are mostly way out of my price range but a lot of them also produce framed prints. Haven't bought anything off them yet but it seems a really good source of more unique / unknown / contemporary work. Just remember to if the cost of framing is included - that'll add £50 to a lot of prints.

Help! Solid wood flooring search with minimal bevels!

Hi Becky Do you know the reason for the Bevels? Bevels are used for pre-finished (factory finished) floors to hide overwood or lippage. Therefor it is unlikely you will find a pre-finished flooring without the bevels. What type of wood flooring pattern are you looking to create?
