Window colour - white, grey or black?
Help please! We are in the process of renovating our retro 1940s house and I’m having a dilemma over window frame colour. Swaying between grey anthracite & white woodgrain at the minute but also considering black! Grey looks great on modern new builds but not sure how it will look on a more traditional house and is it a passing fad? White is safer option and will blend with the rest of the street and maybe more timeless? By the way wood panelling is coming off!! Thanks for your help!

Comments (17)Sliding doors are proving very popular at the moment as they can stack to one side and not protrude into the garden space and be easier to move than full set of bi-folds so that would an approximate opening of about 4m with 3 x 1.250m (plus frame ) panel of glass that would all stack in parallel inline. Or you could try panoramic doors they are more versatile as they are detachable from each other and give you more options for you layout at the finish. There a tutorial on you tube ? Comments (13)Tani I haven’t been on Houzz as much so not sure where you are on renovation but seen you’re looking at cost effective options. I just wondered if it would be nice as well as cheaper if instead of bifolds you had multiple glazed single doors with brick pillars in between? I can’t find a pic but I’ve seen pics of this on a high end commercial to residential period conversion where I presume they wanted to retain the original openings which were probably windows before but they’d taken the lower bricks out so the windows could be doors. It was a great industrial kitchen living space with lots of exposed brick but lots of light from the glazing....See MoreWhite or grey windows?

4 years agoFound this online which is a recently refurbished 1940s house and I love the black windows. This style of window was popular in the 1930s as well as 1940s. Just an idea, not saying you should have windows like this. If you search 1940s house in Hertfordshire, you may find the full story.

I think anthracite grey is a great timeless option, I have had a little look and found an example of anthracite grey on a brick building if that helps. Anthracite is also a great colour to continue throughout your home with your front door etc.
