Source? And how these are installed? (If it’s a drilled out recess, is this done in the field or are they installed by the cabinet fabricator?). I love the idea of nothing sticking out to catch a jeans pocket!

The recessed hardware is from Joseph Giles. The doors are routered out to accept the hardware, which is ideally be carried out in workshop conditions as it's not the easiest of jobs.

Hello Amanda, : )) Do you mean in the kitchen? Yes a nice idea. I like flat plate too, but really plain. Well the best way to describe how I feel about certain alterations is to tell you about someone I knew who "did up" her flat to such a degree that she literally took away all that was characterful about it.. Sometimes it's best to leave things as their patina develops over time and results in something quite special. Restoration is one thing but you can also restore the life out of something and thus diminish in certain contexts the value- and so it's good to know when to stop.. So yes, I'm firmly in the camp suggesting leave them, but of course it's entirely your choice. : ))

Realised I never updated this thread! After a great deal of indecision I was inspired by an instagram post I saw where someone had used a white aluminium curtain track which you could bend to fit to the bay. It's fairly invisible against the white window frames and has a small, shallow profile so it fit neatly into the gap available. I then used the same ikea ingert curtains as elsewhere in the house along with ikea black out liners (which FYI are more 'light reduction' than true 'blackout' :S). Only downside is that when the curtains are fully open they block a little bit of the windows to the sides but honestly I'm just happy to have something up now! It definitely makes the bedroom feel more finished and cosy too :).

When planning lighting, we need to think about what you are doing in that room and what needs to be lit up. So I have placed the lighting where I think you would naturally use the space, i.e. to watch tv and where you would place the dinning table. For the living room, I have 6 downlights situated 60mm away from the wall to light up areas where you will sit, light up the fireplace and any artwork you might place on the walls. Note I have not added any lighting to the TV as you might not want light shining down on the telly, however if you do I suggest adding one perpendicular to the opposite downlight. The lights should be on a dimmer switch so you can reduce the lighting when you are watching a film for example. In fact you could even have them on two different circuits, say if you wanted to keep some of the lights on but not all of them to create a cosy vibe. Your electrician will be able to read my plan and can make the necessary adjustments. For the dinning room we are doing something different! I have suggested to have a pendant light over the dinning table and recessed lights along the edge of the room, mirroring the living room. I am assuming that you may have some artwork or a side table etc. placed along the wall and you can light these up as a feature rather task lighting. Use the pendent light to add a statement piece. I've added a dimmable 2 way switch so that both circuits are kept separate. You could even switch on the recessed lights whilst having dinner rather than have the pendent light for more ambience. What colour are your tiles? Hard to tell from the picture. I had the same dilemma as my fittings are brushed brass and I have black accessories (screen, rad & mirror). My tiles are a light concrete /stone grey and I picked a trim that was a light grey and it disappears into the tiles. . If you have a tile shop locally that deals with trade then you can go in and take your hardware with you and see the trims? Or even buy one to take home and try as you can return them. They have a range of colours - brass is usually special order and so far all the brushed brass items Iver bought from different sellers have all matched so 🤞 I would only use a stand out trim on places you want to highlight. So brass trim on your recess might look lovely.
