Comments (4)On a purely aesthetic level the granite can definitely work in a modern kitchen. That stone is lovely so personally I would just choose the one you like the most. I would add the following though - There is a big trend for quartz now that looks like marble - the main reason being that as a rule of thumb natural stone (not just marble) that is light in colour tends to be more porous than darker stone. Porous means possible stains and marks from things like oil and even water. Natural stone is sealed with a sealant to attempt to overcome this but it isn't always 100% successful. Quartz however doesn't need sealing so it tends to be easier to maintain but some brands may be slighlty more susceptible to chipping. Speak with your stone supplier for clarification to help you decide....See MoreHelp pls:Mixed worktops w/ county kitchen & Moroccan-style floor tiles
Comments (0)Hi, We are finally renovating our kitchen and would like some advice about installing 2 different types of kitchen worktops: granite and wood. We have a smallish J-shaped kitchen and with a separate laundry room which houses the fridge/freezer and washing machine. The style is classical/country cabinet doors in cream/mushroom colour and neutral walls. We have Moroccan style tiles which we installed when we first moved in to brighten up the kitchen, and we would like to retain these (picture included). For cost efficiency, we are considering brown or cream (can’t decide colour!) granite worktops across where the hob and sink will be situated and a dark wood across the 3rd worktop (sample plan attached). Most of the pictures of mix and match countertops on houzz/Pinterest etc seem to involve an island Or breakfast bar, neither of which we have enough space for. Thus would like your feedback on: Will differing worktops work or do they appear too disjointed in a smaller kitchen Advice on granite/quartz worktop colours that will work with the floor tiles. also any advice re: colour scheme for walls/splashback/cabinetry hardware/tiles would be appreciated. most of my kitchen toys ie food processor/kettle/toasrer are grey/black, and the hob/oven/microwave are likely to be grey/black so doesn’t really match with a traditional/country style kitchen! Comments (14)So sorry Daisy English is not impressed with Howdens, I purchased my kitchen from them in Bolton and could not be more pleased. I downsized from a large house with solid oak kitchen units and marble worktops (which after time do stain, whatever anyone tells you) and moved into a much smaller property. With the help of the designer at Howdens she and I designed a kitchen more suitable for my needs, all the units are just to my taste and the appliances are excellent even the oven cleans itself, everything is in there, dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine, microwave, second oven, pan drawers, pull out pantry, hob, and extractor fan and sooooo important wine rack, streamlined and so easy to keep clean. Incidentally I have no connection with Howdens, just a satisfied customer!...See MoreCarolina
