Comments (17)Swveng, 20 ft x 8 ft is a difficult space to create one space. If I'm not mistaken, there would have been a wall about where the TV is now sited and a second working fireplace. Is it possible to remove the chimney breast where you no longer use a fire? This may involve removing the stack right up through the house and roof. If it's a possibility, you will gain more space at that end of your lounge and in the room above as well. You may also want to consider dividing the spaces again with a new stud wall. Should you keep the long space open and remove the chimney breast, the TV unit could be moved to that spot. Another 2 seater sofa could be positioned facing into this area at right angles to the brown sofa to create a TV viewing area. The other end of the room with the bay window could have the easy chair in the bay plus a games table with chairs in front of the fireplace. This can be a homework area as well for the family. Once you work out how to use the space and which furniture pieces you want to retain , if any, then you can decide the colour scheme....See MoreWhat to do with uneven alcoves?

Comments (58)The access door would have to be moved forward a bit and be made narrower to accommodate it. I was discussing it with the husband tonight as we could potentially cut another door from the other side (ie what wil be the 2nd bedroom) and hide that in a wardrobe as secret storage area. The opening would have to be narrow but still wide enough to walk theough but you wouldnt see it from the bedroom then. Got to get a price though as its brick on the other side and it would need a lintel. Nothing is ever straight forward. Ha ha...See Morestoring logs in plastered alcove - how not to damage the walls?
Comments (30)Beano, all my tech is stuff I get from family/freecycle so nothing is permanently installed. A Google thingy in the back combined with an old BT box makes this old telly 'smart', but when it dies there'll inevitably be another generation of obsolete tech being thrown out which I'll gratefully take off people's hands. I'm just as reliant as consumer capitalism as everyone else, just more of a bottom feeder. The remote control for the Google hub works through the logs BTW ;-)...See Moresarauk83
