External Crittall Style Door Advice

Help needed, Crittall style external doors - we are having a kitchen/diner/living open plan style extension build in jan and can't seem to decide on the style of doors! We know we want the crittall look (can't afford the real deal!) there are lots of companies around imitating with aluminium, but do we go french doors with fixed panels or sliders? We have a 5 meter opening, have any of you had these style doors and if so what style & company did you go with? Tia :-)

Hi Katy,

What beautiful choice you have! Love crittal style doors/windows. Ok so what I suggest is to think about how you are going to use the doors - sounds weird, but if you are carting large bits in and out I suggest sliding doors. Also if you like to see the view without doors blocking the view then sliders are the way forward.

However if you quite like the look of French doors opening out then go for those.

It all really depends on how you are going to use them and if you want them to give you a certain look? Would love to know what you go for!

Thank you Rukmini, we definitely won't be carrying large things in and out so I'm thinking the patio doors might be best, we have a 5 meter opening so hopefully we would still get the view? Now following you on insta, love your style :-)

I think you can get a deVOL style kitchen on a smaller budget. I think the key part is design which makes them stand out so personally would speak to Karen at OnePlan on this thread. Karen can design a kitchen for you and then you can shop around for the actual kitchen to suit the budget. Unfortunately I don't think deVOL sell their accessories unless you're buying a kitchen but flooring and tiles are available from their sister company on the link. Taps are made by Perrin and Rowe (unfortunately not the aged brass as designed exclusively for deVOL). Their paint palette is very limited but some of Little Greene and F&B look quite similar or take a photo and get it colour matched at Johnstones. Normally the way the kitchen is accessorised, using a few antiques etc, stands out to me as being deVOL so would post on here for help with accessories and handles as I'm sure people will be able to help you achieve the look you want. This is similar to another post on here, where they are nearing the end of the build and are now starting to think about furniture placement. You have to do the furniture from the off set, otherwise you run the risk of not being able to lay out a room well. Your husband may not want to indent the room too much visually but i'm sure you will want a T.V in the lounge area, so you need to work out where you will put the sofa and T.V before you build. Hopefully the 2.2 metres is the internal space not the external, is there a reason why it's so narrow? It's going to be difficult to put the furniture in there regardless due to the size restriction. I've just measured our dining table, and when you pull the chairs out either side in order to sit down from chair to chair it measures 2.1 metres, so you can see just how tight the space will be. As you see from the renders above I had to move the furniture backwards in to the existing room in order to fit it in............so it's really important to think about it carefully. This is an average sofa and table fitted in to the extension space without going backwards in to the existing room................as you see, it barely fits.

Hi Tracey, Why not look at getting the Crittall doors in white to match the bifolds? I haven't got a close up photo of the Crittall system in white but I have a photo of a similar aluminium system in white which may be give you an idea of it being a suitable match to your white bifolds... The black can look a little stark against other white doors or windows but the style is such a great look it is well worth exploring the possibilities. Rather than having a door and glass panel made to the exact size it would be more cost effective to put in a standard sized door in a new stud wall. Also don’t forget this type of door will need an extra long door latch (so that the handle is in the intended place and not weirdly close to the edge) so make sure you use a really good joiner to put the door in.

Hi,

It would be very interesting to know the price difference between Crittal and an alternative. I know Crittal costs about £2000 per sqm. @Katy Middleton if you see this post (I know the thread is old) then maybe you can share? Many thanks!
