What kind of extension is this?

If we wanted to have a glass extension with a roof like this, how would you describe the style and typically how much might it cost?

Firstly, what did you sign and have you got a copy of it?? If the extension needed planning you would have had a Party Wall Agreement possibly. If it's not within regulations, then approach your local council planning department and complain about it. Even if they did not require permission from planning, they would have had to have building regs. Therefore, it would have required a sign off from that department, so, with reference to the height, you may be able to argue on that ground. As for light, they had an extension there anyway, they've just squared the roof off, so I think that may prove to be a mute point, unless you can prove the height issue. Then force them to go through planning as it's not within regulations and dispute it. If the extension is within 2 metres of the boundary it cannot be more than 3m in height. Personally I think you need to bin the idea to put the kitchen there because it divides the space in such a way that there are four areas that have no apparent purpose and are not really big enough to do anything with. I suggest you blank out the kitchen cabinet position and the utility room on the plan and give the blank space to a kitchen professional to show where they would put the cabinets.

I agree with others about artwork and/or books. Slim bookshelves for small paperbacks or you could use picture ledges for either nice cookery books or other books to display front side forward or for actual pictures! Could also add interest with high level shelf and plants that cascade down. Also look at picture lights that can be mounted on walks above pics/shelves you can get battery powered ones if you don't want to hard wire into walls. Also a rug/runner will help cosy things up.
