HELP PLEASE!!!!! advice on tile colour and what you put underneath!
we are having the whole floor replaced due to tiles lifting along the threshold areas of the patio and door ways.
I have narrowed it down to 2 plank tiles. 1 is a more traditional wood colour and the other a paler grey colour. I'M STUCK! and need to choose today!
also the original tiles were put straight on concrete. The tile company are saying we should have a matting underneath. The builder (obviously) says not!!
Can anyone help?? My husband is worries about putting an expensive tile down and having the same problem again.
Advice pleeeaaassssee!!!

Comments (14)Greg think you have made a great start, just needs a few colourful statement pieces. Firstly the chest of drawers are fab, my suggestion if you like them would be to utilise them in the lounge either side of the radiator under the window, for storing what looks like cd's the other side of the fireplace in these. You could put the existing cubes either side of the two sofa's. I would ditch the rug in the lounge, and get something bold and bright such as cobalt blue with orange/yellow. In the bedroom, keep the IKEA drawers and paint them either black or dark blue and have them adjacent to each other on the back wall opposite the bed, with the TV on top as someone has already suggested. The art work is great, but would swap it over to where the mirror is and move that elsewhere. Again ditch the rug, maybe an animal skin would work well in here, keeping a masculine feel. Comments (15)Hi Dynamo, I'm responsible for the design in your photo and delighted you like the look of this room. You would only need a few square meters of the split mosaic tiles which are available of sheets, so not expensive for a striking feature. Also, easy to keep free of dust with a quick once over with a dust pan brush, or brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner . WC's are often overlooked but when you consider its a room you use every day and your guests use too, why not make it an enjoyable experience! An alternative and very inexpensive idea for your walls and my signature in practically every home I renovate, is installing 6mm MDF panelling with a 10mm shadow gap in between each panel, apply with Pink Gripfil adhesive. 600mm x 600mm square or horizontal panels of any height add a sense of depth and soul to boring flat, painted walls. A sheet of MDF is cheap as chips, just make sure you prime and undercoat thoroughly with a mini roller before applying eggshell finish or acrylic paint. It's not a main bathroom so not susceptible to humidity, therefore emulsion paint in a contrast shade will work well too. Comments (123)Thank you for everyone's comments, had no idea this thread would prove so popular when I started it. We are plastering this week and we have finally bought most things for the kitchen. I did find some real 'finds' though if anyone is looking. Not sure where you are based, but regarding electrical goods we researched all our own and narrowed down our list, and once we had that we looked online for the best prices for each appliance. Instead of buying from lots of different places we took it to Bentalls, who not only matched, but also cost us less, and beat some online prices with a good 'deal' price they also then will hold on to them until you need them, but if anything goes wrong you have 'bentalls' rather than several online dealers to return items to. RDO Appliances also do this if there is one near you, but i'd advise you to research prices first. Another thing we found was inserts for the kitchens. Through our kitchen supplier these were expensive, bin inserts, pull out drawers, pull out larders, even the pop up sockets, sourced seperately through ebay and online we managed to save quite a lot of money by doing this, so our fitter will still have the right things on the day, but we are not getting the inserts from the supplier. I bought a new sink and vanity from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/fullen-t%C3%A4lleviken-wash-basin-cabinet-white-spr-39891444/ However, it's occurred to me since that it'll take up too much of the room/floorspace, especially as the sink faces you as you walk in. I've been looking at other designs, and the wall-hung sink with a nicer-looking chrome waste could be a much better option. Added to this, if I'm tiling the floor, I'll probably need to buy a new loo, and IKEA doesn't do matching loos. Therefore...where can I buy a basic loo/basin package? What's the difference between a 'toilet and basin' and a 'cloakroom suite'? Should I go for one or two tap holes? Am I wasting my money? Should I just update the taps on the existing sink and tile-box in the waste?...See More

4 years ago@rinq we paid to get someone else to lay the floor so it's currently going down now!
The problem with the floor was the insulator foam they had put in the trench along all the thresholds and it wasn't covered with concrete - hence it failed. so they concreted over. they wouldn't let us talk to the tiler who was going to relay the floor hence we felt we couldn't trust them. so they just took the floor up. they painted the skirting after due to some damage - but decided to only paint the bottom half of the skirting!!!
still stuck on wall colour though!
