Grey UPVC or White UPVC Windows?
Comments (17)Thanks Daisy I am swaying more towards grey. Yes that's very true as we're one of the only houses with the original 80s windows still, so people won't pay out just for a different colour if there windows are still okay. We really love grey, I am just worried it'll look out of place or not as good as I'd be hoping. I may have found the solution... I've been googling today & noticed slim profile UPVC windows exist (Aluminium is out of our budget). As one thing that put me off UPVC grey Windows was that the frame seams more obvious than white somehow & I don't like the thick,chunky frame of some UPVC Windows so that maybe an option. Comments (9)Thank you for your views Jonathon. So, when you suggest changing layout what do you mean? We initially looked at through our existing patio door having a door straight out to garden but decided this would limit space internally like you mention and also be a bit of a wind tunnel. So the design is through our existing patio/ a full wall to right , windows ahead and the external door out to the left (longest part). Comments (8)Yes I've seen a number of postwar houses made over in the style you describe- cedar cladding, dark grey windows, usually some white rendering too. Door is generally replaced with a modern style in wood or dark grey. It works very well.. My only caution would be to get the internal layout decided before shelling out for windows and doors just in case you find you want to move a window or door slightly (which is not a big deal usually)....See MoreWood effect or smooth UPVC grey on white?

3 years agoMorning! We went with a chartwell green wood effect composite door which looks quite authentic itself. We had an original leaded window on the side of the porch which nobody could see which the door people restored and put into secure double glazing panels for the door and sidelights. The UPVC shiny white frame, I don't like so much. But as you see there is a lot of frame so it would have been a lot more money to do in in green frame. It is also safe and keeps the house warmer. On balance, I'm happy with the compromise.
Still have plans down the line to redo the front garden (well make it into a garden and not a breezeblock parking lot for multiple cars we don't own - but the previous owners with older children did). Thinking Med garden with low level fencing in charteuse green, lavenders, beige gravel etc. Maybe cypress or olive trees left and right of the door. I'm sure that will improve the whole frontage and take emphasis away from the frame.
