Toddler's Bedroom Paint Advice

Hello everyone,

We're decorating our son's room, so far we have ordered a silvery-grey carpet, the walls have a high picture rail and we plan on painting above this and the ceiling in brilliant white, woodwork also white.

Now, I had originally thought we would just paint the rest of the walls in an off-white shade, perhaps dulux white cotton however I am wondering if we should go braver and chose something bolder...?

The scheme for the rest of the room bedding and accessories wise will be monochrome, mustard, navy and forest green.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

I’d be tempted to go for feature wall with a bolder colour. Perhaps include a a little reading corner or tent with plenty of soft cushions but leave plenty of space for toy play and more importantly toy storage:-) some ideas:

how about a simple feature wall with green and blue. It need not be too elaborate. Easy to achieve with paint and easy to paint over when you grow tired of it or your toddler outgrows it.

We think it would be great to paint the walls the colours that you have suggested and then perhaps have one feature wall with some kids wallpaper.

Hello again all and sorry for the delay! i have now got a throw and started to extend my gallery over the corner. I grabbed an old chair and rug that were kicking about in my parents' garage and put them in the corner to give me some idea of what i want. actually, i kinda like the beat-up chair but i don't think the rug looks right. is it too small? Now i have the reddish throw (LOVE it... from the Avoca shop in Belfast - amazing place, if you are ever in Belfast do go!!) I am actually considering replacing my blind because i prefer red tones to the turquoise. Just not sure what I would get instead? Still need a fab lamp and more cushions but wisdom says wait for the January sales! I still think I need something more eyecatching on my vanity too... Considering a map above my bed but I don't know if it would compete with the gallery wall too much? have to say i do love the "hello" sign!

I would suggest going for the plain reddish/pink throw with the rose/floral pattern cushion. Keep it to just those colours as you don't want it to look too mismatched as that could give your small room a cluttered feel. To add some glamour easily, I would recommend more lighting in the form of some candles and also perhaps some fairy lights around the window would add something extra to the window alcove.

I'd have a quirky feature wall with the other walls a light blue! Then you could use different vintage pieces around the room. Alternatively, I would have a duck egg/light blue feature wall with a nice pattern and the other walls a light cream/white. Either way I would put your bed against the feature wall with some basic curtains.

Hi, the greys you have done the mocking up with are all quite bluey which might not work with the colour of the bed you've chosen. Hi @Nixxy H,

Our advice would be to keep walls in rather soft/pale colours and to have a feature wall. Be carefull with colours though as those influence our moods and feelings. Check our website for little help on paint colours.

There are plenty of great wallpapers for kids' rooms too, but you could have a magnetic or blackboard wall instead, or two in one. You could use the wall to stick his art onto, but also to draw with chalk. Be creative for a good start.

Rachel’s first pic is adorable! And easily achieved with a bit of good quality masking tape.
