How do I create a wood panelling effect on walls

We have put in a downstairs cloakroom dnd would love to create a wood panelling effect on the walls. How do we do this? We want white wood with clear definition between the panels like in the photo below.

Have you thought of wood effect tiles like the image below, although this pictures them outside they are still suitable for internal walls and floors.

You could do T&G panels but space the joins out more so there is an obvious gap

As Tani said. Most builders merchants sell tongue and groove panelling and you can even get it in sets, that is panels already stuck together in lengths for easier installation. I love panelling too.

Listed or not listed? If you're listed you'll definitely need listed building consent. If not listed...are you in a conservation area? Would putting in a bigger wall deprive your neighbours of sunlight? What do the other walls around you look like? You need to talk to an architectural/conservation specialist and to the planning officer.

Hi Sangita, your best bet is to hire a skilled joiner as there is not a wide selection of wood panelling available online in the UK (it looks like the style in the image is quite American). If you are looking to re-create the exact style, which has pretty wide slats then I would approach a joiner who can build this for you. Reason I suggest this is because all the plumbing and electrics needs to be rigged through the panelling as well.

in Australia we have a thing called vertical joint (VJ) panels and they're cladding you can nail and glue onto walls and ceilings to get the modern farmhouse look.

Have full MDF sheets cut in a few millimeters deep? And then spraypainted. If your room size allows (width/length of mdf sheet). You won't have a wood grain though..

Would not use plastic bathroom paneling (with wood grain) as it looks really fake..
