Ideas for my sad looking living room.
Comments (32)Start by taking out everything you don't want/need Paint your walls white to start with as this will give the room a fresh new feel, you can always change this if you want but you can't go wrong with white. Dulux pure brilliant white is a good choice so you don't get confused with the cold/warm undertones. Change the largest sofa for something smaller, I don't mind the other one as it is a modern style but if it is worn and you feel you need to change then now is the best time. Wool fabric is a great hard wearing choice and is easy to clean. I have children and have had mid charcoal wool fabric sofas for 4 years and they are perfect! Don't forget that your sofa is an investment so put your money into this as décor can be changed a lot cheaper! Paint the fire surround colour to a charcoal to make it stand out and also link in with the sofas NOW.... is the fun part! I'd concentrate on the red curtains and find some art work or wallpaper or a rug or cushion that you REALLY love with red in and possibly some other bright colours. Be creative & bold! I would consider changing the green curtains but by this stage you'll have a better feel of the room and where it is heading and how you want the room to look from here. If you are worried about the cost of curtains, I'd look at IKEA as you can get some lovely cheap curtains from there. Once you've got to this stage, I'd post some before pics and after pics for us on Houzz and ask for further advice on decorating as you would have a blank slate and something that you LOVE that you can work with on the colours to bring in touches of texture and warmth and comfort from there. Good Luck!...See MoreDark/small hallway and stairs, looking for colour ideas?
Comments (9)Hi Lucy - here are some Photoshop tryouts of some of the more daring hues in Farrow and Ball and Little Green (F&B 'Arsenic', Little & Green 'Leather' pink...) I can't vouch for the accuracy of online colour charts as you'll see them on your PC, but these should give you a broad idea of what you could do if you're keeping the beige carpet and dark grey paint (which I've extended to the skirting to make it easier to put stronger colours near the beige). A lot depends on the other colours you have in your house, and whether you want a 'warm' feel or a 'cool' one. For the 'off white' (which should show dirt less than pure white) I'd suggest using either a pale version of the carpet colour or a pale version of the band colour. If you want to go all out for really bright colours - or anything in the yellow or orange range - the beige carpet would have to go. Obviously, the band colour could be picked up in picture frames or other decorations. Hope this helps....See MoreLounge ideas please
Comments (6)Thanks for the ideas. I am keen to paint but not quite yet. Planning a mirror above the fire but all the ones I like are out of stock! I was going to go for a round one? I've ordered a mid century bookcase to put against the left of the patio door wall but I'm going to see how it looks in the space and it might have to go in the dining room. I've ordered some funky art prints for above the couch. I'm trying to stick with mustard, powdery pink and bluey grey tones as those are the colours I have in various items in the room already. I think I just feel like it's a bit empty. I might wait until the things I've ordered arrive and take it from there. The window above the couch I could make into shelves, I'll give that some thought! I feel a bit disappointed I can't use the alcoves. Husband is dead against TV on wall so that's a no go. Could possibly add shelves above built in unit on the other side of the fire?...See Moretrying to achieve this look
