Help!! need some recommendation on 3D simulator for living room dilema

Looking for some help and guidance to visualise the arrangements for my new living room layout which has got plenty of sunlight ( south facing ) .

Any 3D simulators or ideas to work with this layout , I am not sure which one should be tv wall and feature wall

Sketch up is free (or used to be!) and it's pretty easy to use (again used to be easier, but I'm assuming is still manageable). Hope this helps

Hello, if you go with curtains, I think champagne colour would look better. Go with a layered look: two -three layers, main curtains, translucent cotton and a net curtain. That way you'd be able to manage the level of the light (and bugs) coming into the room. I think your room would benefit from mid century style and because of your lovely sofa I would go for orange dark blue colour scheme. Can you swap the side of the chaise lounge. If you can I would turn the sofa to face the window, put a wall of bookcases (ikea billy) along the back wall and add another accent chair opposite the sofa next to the patio door. I would change the coffee table only because it is a big chunky, but if you want to keep it, stain it a bit warmer wood colour. I wouldn't put any more rugs b cause you have a carpet already, unless you decide to change to a wood flooring. Instead I would accessorise with some ethnic middle eastern or Asian pattern cushions with brown, red, orange and some bit of green. I would hung three large (700x500) framed art above the sofa. Hi Chloe, What a lovely space and great shaped room to work with! Having been through something very similar in the last 6 months and very nearly made a few big mistakes (but thankfully didn't!) there's a few things I'd probably mention. I love having your seating area by the doors, we have done something similar and it's a lovely space to sit in and look out. Are you having a TV in there and have you thought about where it might go if you are? I totally agree with Jonathan, probably not enough worktop if you have both your sink and hob on the island. Our island is 2.4m in length (1.2m wide) and there's just enough space to cook and then plate up next to the hob for 8 plates so long as you're tidy! :) We've gone from Gas to induction hob and I do miss being able to take hot things out of the oven and put them directly onto the hob (it's not recommended, although lots of people say it's fine... I haven't quite been brave enough yet!!) Tall units are fab and our double larder cupboard we use to store all pots, pans and glassware- I still can't believe how much you can get in it! We also put it in a position whereby it's accessible from both where I cook and also the 'social' side of the island so friends / hubby can lay the table etc, without having to get right by me cooking. We've ended up with a separate space for the toaster and microwave out of the main work area of the kitchen and I love it as people can make toast and snacks without getting in my way if I'm cooking! Don't go for base unit cupboards if you can help it- drawers are so much better! We only ended up with one in our pantry and I am going to have internal drawers fitted as it's a right pain to see what's at the back! Have you considered banquette seating around one side of the dining table as an alternative? It's super flexible seating if you've got little ones and because one side is up against a wall it gives not only quite a cosy feeling but extra floor space for moving around it. My other bit of advice would be have a think about your lighting super early in the design and get all your electrics sorted- I'd never realised before this project what a huge difference lighting and layered lighting can make to a room that is multi- functional! Have you got someone helping you with the design of the room (layout and aesthetics) or are you going it alone? :) Hope it helps! Best wishes, Claire

Wow, that’s going to be a very dark kitchen. I think you will need most of those downlights, plus under cabinet lighting. Be careful to choose warm white 3000k or even very warm white 2700k to avoid the operating theatre look. Also presume you will have dimmers. Make sure you have several circuits so you can have some lights bright/some dim/some off. For example you could have the downlighters on one circuit and the the pendants and under cabinet lights on another, so you can have just the latter on when you want more evening atmosphere. Then the dining area and sitting area lights should also be separate circuits. Also consider a feature wall light in the under stairs space where you have the open area. And/or under breakfast bar lighting, or even plinth lights if you like that look (I’m not a fan personally). You are going to want a lot of layers of light. As regards layout I would suggest keeping the down lights along either wall where they are but playing around a little with the two central rows of lights so that they are more staggered and more random. Consider where you actually need and want them - eg one or two over/very near the hob (if your extractor doesn’t have built in lights), also above the prep space to the side of the hob, and maybe one just beyond the waterfall end of the island to light up the marble. Even just staggering those two rows so they are offset from the wall rows will help a lot with avoiding the grid effect. Electricians will go for a grid as it is much easier!

Just a little tip, if you would like the effect of deeper skirting boards, without the expense of ripping the old ones out, you could add a moulding, or a series of thin mouldings to run parallel above the existing skirting boards. To add greater height leave a gap between the existing and added mouldings. If you then paint the lot you get the effect of a deep skirting board. I love the green by the way.
