Is it ok that I don't want a fireplace?
Comments (3)I think it depends on what you want to look at. Personally I think TVs have got so big that they demand central positioning and if there is a fireplace there they get awkwardly stuck in a corner. Also the fireplace is often redundant in modernized houses with other sources of heating. However in a grand period property with features such as coving and picture rails the omission of a fireplace is obvious....See MoreOver Mantle Mirror Advice Help
Comments (16)The thing that strikes me when I look at your room and the kitchen, is that it's quite a collection of different styles. I think the key thing you could do to calm it down is to pull the colours together. I mocked something up to show you what I mean. I didn't go for a mirror that reflects all the different things, but for a painting with the red of the chair, the green of the plant and curtains, the blue of the tiles. I also painted the dining chairs blue. And changed the light in the kitchen to pewter pendants. I also gave you bar stools that are less country in style. Hope it helps....See Moremantle shelf or not?
Comments (16)kikiamack, thanks for the input. I hadn't noticed that images had one or the other. I had noticed quite a few of the shelves just looked 'wrong'. I'd never thought of hanging something with the ability to also display things. This is food for thought. I have a weird vintage glass fronted display case with multiple incredibly narrow shelves. Ideal for displaying thimbles or Matchbox cars, neither of which I do. Now I'm wondering if I could create something interesting with it. My previous idea ( before I ran out of money) was to buy some original art from this artist: https://www.georgiacox.com I absolutely love her stuff. I'm still planning to get a print....See MoreInspiration required...fear of wall and mantle dressing! !
Comments (11)Thanks everyone. I really appreciate you taking the time to feedback and for providing the mock up to show how this would work. I like the idea of the mustard wall...I have bold mustard and cream geometric curtains to blend with cushions so will give some thought on colour balance. I definitely agree that some more green accents are needed. Not even thought of turquoise! I'm dreding picking a rug for the room that blends with the bold soft furnishings! Will play around with mirror sizes so thanks for your advice on that. The stags head works well I think. I've tried a large A0 world map picture to right of the fireplace as its the larger wall and it didn't look right (too big) so if I went for art I've no idea what would look right or what size....the small wall to the left of the fireplace runs to the edge of a large bay window and sits behind the tv so not sure what to do there.if anything? I've ordered a new slimline hairpin leg wood tv unit which blends better with the room than the existing ugly one..I hope!...See MoreLJ Lilliput
