How can I make my kitchen design/layout more practical?
Comments (13)The design layout could do with changing if this is a two chef kitchen - as currently hob and sink share same floor standing space, the DW when open blocks the walkway - oven is danger to anyone opening door... The FF is not what you want - the list goes on !!! Difficult to help further with no sizes - I could guess from the doors - but no head on shot of the right wall so a bit tricky - this could be a 'very quick' job as a sketch consult on an hourly rate, if you want pro help - drop me an email ! If you were thinking of using ikea for example - you could buy and have installed the carcase's, drawers, worktop, sink and appliances and then add the facia fronts as and when you have spare cash - this would stretch your money a little further ... £4k is still a lot of money - invest it wisely !...See MoreHelp design my kitchen layout before my builder and husband kill me!
Comments (15)OK, I normally do gardens, but here's my take..... You kitchen is very similar to ours, which we've lived with for a few years now. Based on our experience, I'd move the sink to be opposite the cooker, with dishwasher adjacent and a ready-use plate rack over/adjacent (most people use dishwashers these days, so having the food preparation area by the window is more meaningful). You might also want to think about swapping the sink and cooker sides, since the route for dirty plates is from the dining table to the peninsula, to the dishwasher/sink. The peninsula is too narrow - this is where everything gets "dumped", so more surface area, creeping round the corner, will be much more useful: also, instead of a rounded end, a square end with cutlery drawers etc. would fit with the route of flow from kitchen to table. Agree with Ash that moving the door to the utility would work better - clear route of flow from dining area to the door without going into the more confined kitchen space. If you have an american style fridge-freezer along the bottom wall, say, you might want a second, under-unit fridge near the food prep area, for things you use all the time (thus preserving the traditional "work triangle"). Oh, and make sure you have a little spice cupboard right next to the cooker!...See MoreNeed help in Cannes! Can't design my space!
Comments (9)Hi Heidi, I did a lot of work in Cannes last year, its a lovely location. The apartment looks wonderful, lots of strong architectural details, good proportions and light flooding into the space, a good start !! You really need someone you can discuss the project with who has the ability to visualise a concept based on your preferences and get those ideas down on paper. Your going to be inundated with designers who will pitch for this project. You need to consider four factors. 1 Do they have the ability to do the work. 2 Can they get on your wavelength so the interior captures your aspirations. 2 Are their fees reasonable and grounded in reality. 3 Can they present their ideas with artists impressions to illustrate their ideas. Taking into consideration all the above there is one final consideration. "Can you work with this person ?" This sounds like an abstract statement but an interior like this is the realisation of a dream for you, it should be a joy and as such you need to work with a designer that is both professional and on your wavelength from a personality perspective. On that basis you need to interview a quite a few designers. You need to be comfortable with that individual and have the confidence that he / she can produce a scheme that matches your tastes and have the ability to make it a reality. Here are a few details about myself: (Apologies about the bullet points) I'm BIID Registered - https://biid.org.uk/member/martin-nealon I have worked with luxury interior design for 30 years so have experience. I will quote a fixed fee for my design time, no hidden extras. My profit comes from design time only, I supply all fittings at trade and provide you with the trade invoices. (i.e. no mark up) I have two companies: www.3dinteriorillustration.co.uk The first is a design only company that can design the space, illustrate our ideas and provide mood boards for all rooms. This service is a fixed fee per room and is primarily for other interior designers but we offer this to private clients as well. We work on a fixed fee so you can see our charges up front and the visuals we produce will allow you to see the rooms in every detail. The designs are yours to keep so you have the option of retaining our services to do the interior or pass the drawings / mood boards to local companies to complete the works. www.angel-martin.com This company offers a full installation and co ordination service where we organise the project for you and oversee every aspect. I'm not going to pretend this is an economical approach, this type of project absorbs a lot of time but we do all the work for you. Thats my sales pitch over. Good luck with the project. With Kind Regards, Martin...See MoreOur New Kitchen CAD Design - any thoughts/comments?
Comments (11)Hi there. I think your kitchen looks fab but agree the render maybe creating a slighting different feeling of the space. I create 3D renders for most of my clients and offer a package creating 3D visuals to show clients what their space will look like once done and this one definitely doesn't give a very homely feel to the space with the colour and lighting shown. I have attached a few images to show you the sort of 3D images we use to give you a feel for the space as a whole. I agree with Jonathan above that the sink would be better nearer the dining table - another plus up this is when you enter with shopping your island will be where you head and with that moved you will have a better layout of space for that. I look forward to updates so do keep us informed of how your project is progressing :)...See MoreD Hoffman
