Renovating Bathrooms

I want to turn my bathroom from full tiled to half tiled

We have just bought a flat the has a fully tiled bathroom and want to change it to half tiled. My plan was to remove the tile we dont want then fill and replaster and rough parts. I was then going to tile over the existing remaining tile. Is this possible or wise?

It can certainly be done. My parents bathroom was tiled all over, and when they updated it, it was re-tiled over the old. It looked great and less mess, but this was done by a professional tiler. Don’t attempt tiling yourself unless you are experienced, it will always look terrible. Same with plastering, it’s a really skilled job that takes years of practice. If you use a tiler he/she will be able to advise you.

Hi there, We have an assortment of floor tiles that you could choose from! I'd recommend any colour that's darker than the wall tiles, as it should mean you won't find yourself constantly worrying about cleaning up after yourself.

My twopenneth..... I usually love a good painting update but here I'm definitely with the don't paint Houzzers above. I think the devil is in the detail with this one and you've got the bones of a nice spa feel bathroom space here. Agree you should change the toilet seat to white and consider painting the window frame white too. You could always think about covering the floor with a tile effect vinyl (black and white) for an update there. Complement this with some black and white artwork. The brown tiles will help warm the monochrome look and then like others say its largely about those finishing touches. Some inspiration pics below. The last one is far too cluttered for my taste but gives some idea of how you might tackle some storage, dressing of the room and flooring idea. Good luck

Thanks so much for all your comments! I knew I wanted a full height feature wall behind the bath but the rest I just couldn't decide. I too like the look of just the shower and bath wall tiled but like @Carolina I really don't like having no tiles round the toilet, and just a couple of tiles behind the sink. So I'm leaning towards having the tiles up to half height around the rest of the bathroom, with full height in the shower and behind the bath. If I'm pleased with the way it turns out I will try to remember to post a pic of the finished room!

Wood or stone effect tiles in my new bathroom ? - please help !

LVT is generally fine up to 27 degrees with UFH but you’d need to check the relevant make etc. A warm stone effect could work particularly if you have the room to add accessories to bring in more warmth? I don’t think a chevron wood effect would give a nautical feel and the pattern gives the effect of texture. I think any wood would work though, just avoid accessorising with anything nautical if that’s not the look you want! Do you also want to avoid pattern in the shape of the tile as opposed to a print on the tile?
