Sofa/armchair layout ideas, thanks
So new kitchen was completed early December and we had a Christmas tree by the bay window. Now the tree is gone there is space as shown in pics below.
I have not got island stools yet, Island is 60cm deep plus 30cm overhang. The width of floor space to the back of island is 275cm. Not sure how much of that should be kept free for stool seating, but there is room for possibly an armchair small sofa?
There does need to be space kept for getting upstairs.
Ideas/thoughts welcome.

Comments (7)It's almost identical to the layout of the ground floor in my old house, except my kitchen was accessed from the diner. If keeping the tv, etc, where it is now I would consider removing the fireplace so that you could have a sofa along that wall and then either a second sofa backing onto the window or a chaise sofa and a chair. The other option might be to move the tv to the window corner and have a sofa or l-shape seating backing onto the dining area. Although this option might block the walk through from the hall it would allow you to keep a fireplace as a feature without competing with the tv too much....See MoreNeed Ideas for Layout of New living room
Comments (9)Hello, I think your TV position is fine where it is so you could put a sectional sofa and an armchair instead of the two sofas that currently face each other. A round or an oval coffee table would also be a more balanced choice in terms of shape as currently there are too many rigid rectangles and straight corners. Good luck! Comments (16)Hi, I've had leather sofas... wouldn't get them again. They look great and are easy to clean, but if you are someone who gets cold easily and don't like the feel of cold surfaces in the winter you will cringe every time you sit on them in the winter. (I'm guessing you have wood burner because your house gets cold) and if you are someone who is generally hot all the time then in the summer when your're wearing shorts and t-shirt you will stick to them and they will make you very sweaty leaving wet patches as you get up. The worst is when guests leave wet patches where their bums have been! Once the sofa has been worn in a bit and the seat area gets a tiny bit saggy as they all do, you will find yourself sliding into the sag. You will find yourself pulling yourself out each time you get up, especially in the bigger sofas. An occasional chair as in Sonia's picture I think is fine or if they are in a secondary room. Not to mention repair costs if you manage to damage the leather. Regarding cleaning sofas then we bought a upholstery and carpet cleaning machine. 4 years agoThat was a good idea to try sofa there, since I don't have any smaller sofa I have lined up 3 dining chairs. .
In line, length140cm and Ice sat them out clearing the radiator, and also out so that they fit out at 90cm depth from radiator.I've never liked the look of a single sofa in an area as think it just can look a bit silly.... so I'm thinking 2 chairs instead, that way I can angle one a bit into the bay window?

You can also cut out paper to the size of the furniture you'd like to place there and lay that on the floor. That will give you an idea about the floorspace it will take up. (click on the pics to enlarge)
