We have a wood look lvt, karndean. I would say you do need some warmth to your kitchen as all the whites and greys alone are rather cold, so definitely not the marble floor.

I would go for high gloss mustard green wet wall where the tiles were. This colour looks great with aubergine and the sleek finish will instantly update the kitchen. Positional ceiling halogens and lighting under the wall cupboards to make the rich colours glow. I think three colours are fine, especially if you pull them together in a blind fabric or cushion. ???

That photo does look good, the two don't clash at all. I can't afford real wood flooring. I will either be having new laminate or engineered wood flooring, neither of which are something I would want in a kitchen. I also don't feel comfortable having something I feel would be more difficult to clean than tiles. It's a kitchen diner which opens onto our unusually wet and muddy garden. I have two children who create lots of mess. Just yesterday my eldest spilled some sort of hideous red goo all over the cream carpet upstairs! My other option is some sort of blue geometric patterned tiled floor. I haven't been able to find many affordable options so would probably only be able to do half of the room, depending on the way it is designed. Do any more affordable options exist? I found the optiks tiles at topps tiles which are just under £70 a square metre, so still too expensive for me. They are also quite a light blue and I'd prefer something darker. Are there any other options around?

I also like a wood colour with this kitchen. I have a wood floor, I find it practical but I concede my kitchen doesn’t have heavy traffic.
You can fake the wood look with ceramic, porcelain and LVT.

Separately has the kitchen been ordered yet? Are you open to tweaks to the design?

Hi Jonathan, Thanks. this kitchen will be fairly high traffic and I'm just not convinced that porcelain or LVT give the same feel as a wood floor does. but thanks for your suggestion.

Very open to tweaks on the design. what were you thinking?

For me there are a couple of things that in my humble opinion are dated design details. I think the tall corner cabinet, the detailing on the canopy and the raised breakfast bar are all choices that are made less often now in favour of a sleeker unfitted look.
You might also consider the fridge position inconvenient and depending on how much you use it you might prefer to move the prep sink away from the very edge of the island.
You might ask your designer to show you how it would look if you did not wrap cabinets around the corner by the door and stopped short of the corner instead, if your island was all one level, if you had a full height larder fridge plus larder freezer integrated into the run with the hob and built a larder or drinks area into the chimney where you were going to put the fridge.
If it were mine I would probably trade the flutted pillasters for something simpler and position the handles all horizontally and centered and I personally think the current extractor canopy could be replaced with something simpler and tall enough for the space and the break front under the hob would be more successful if the cabinets either side were different.... if you want them all to match then don’t break them up. Also a wall cupboard above the kettle would be useful for cups and mugs.
There are also design services you can enlist to redesign this for you or you can go back to your original kitchen designer with instructions for tweaks.

Floor: I have ceramic tiles. I have had them down for years and it’s too much of a hassle to swap them. Wouldn’t have them again. Far too cold. Would opt for LVT.

My sister has a porcelain wood look floor which is lovely, but she has under floor heating. I think without UFH it would be rather cold. Wood is lovely, but it does wear in high traffic areas. I’ve heard a lot of praise for LVT.

Hi Engineered wood can be hard wearing and chevron or herring bone look great. Alternatively three are some amazing wood effect porcelain tiles which are easy to keep clean and look like real wood. Both come in different tones from natural wood to greys and choclate brown. Different forms of underfloor heating is now available to go under both so shouldnt be a problem. Your renders look great. Its the fitting thats important make sure you use a professional company.

We couldn't work out what we wanted so we opted forLaminate Flooring after comparing it to others. Best decision we made imo.

Hi:) I would install a wooden floor, which will contrast the cold colours of your kitchen. Remember to use a material which is easy to clean!

Totally not a grey floor. It would look cold and clinical. Wood or wood effect would create a warm and inviting room.

We are not finished yet but had the same dilema as you. Also a similar shape (L shape around island). We fell in love with a wood herringbone floor but practically it was a bad idea in the kitchen area. We ended up tiling the L shape and (although kitchen isn't finished yet) we are VERY happy with the decision. We would have been paranoid as anything to get water on wood.

Hi E D no underfloor heating, just cork slippers! I found the tiles in Mandarin Stone, they're very lovely but need to be used carefully.

Colourhappy 😂 they were my impulse tiles I bought for my kitchen when I was looking for my bathroom tiles! They are definitely a statement tile, did she use dark grey grout?

HI Minnie, I'm not sure, but they look amazing. Did you use them in the end? I remember seeing them in a bathroom and they didn't look right, but I think they work in just one area.

Hi colourhappy, it's being done tomorrow. All the grout images online appear to be white but I thought grey might work better. The tiles I'd previously looked at for my bathroom were from MS so just googled images of MS tiles (being lazy) and up these ones popped and had to have them! I think I know the one
