Cowhide Rug - Yes or No?

Hello,

I’m in need of some help in deciding whether to add a cowhide rug under my dinning table without it making the living area too busy (see attached photos)

Your thoughts be appreciated, thanks.

I would say yes as you have the clear table it will give more features however not that particular rug. Also having had one myself, they wear out allot quicker than you think and you cant do much about that...

It's a lovely room. If you want to zone the dining area then i think an irregular shaped rug would be good. I feel the black is somewhat lost though and maybe too much for the room? Sorry I can't photoshop but gives an idea :)

It's all personal preference but if it was me I'd say no, red and black are not the best colours together and I'd be looking for an alternative colour. If you are looking for advice on arrangement, for aesthetics it might look better to have a plain behind a patterned but in practical terms they should just be positioned wherever is most comfortable.

Actually the curtains look fine, better than I expected but yes a totally different style to the rug and both quite distinct patterns so clashed. I'd go with a more abstract fluid rug in similar colours and a splash of something like pale lime. blue or orange so it's not too matchy matchy. One step at a time! I've been known to buy and change sofas and rugs in my living room numerous times until I'm happy (luckily I like pre-loved things so rarely lose much, if any money on them, just takes a bit of effort. Floors in kitchens get messy and need regular wipe overs. So a rug would be more work to keep clean. It could also be a slip hazard if rushing about. The only good thing about having a rug is that it keeps the feet warm in winter. To avoid cold feet, I wear thick bootee slippers in winter. Hence no rug in my kitchen even though there are so many lovely rugs out there. I just don't want the extra hassle.

Rugs on carpets divide people don't they?! I've never had one on a carpet before, unless it's been covering something... however, it does bring the room together. It might be a case of right idea, wrong rug. It was advertised as beige and blue online, but has quite a lot of grey in it which is clashing with the carpet a bit.

I love the cow skin rugs and have a couple myself. It’s so versatile and easy to clean and I prefer the irregularity of it as well.

It’s rather like marmite I feel - you either love them or hate them! Not for me but they are very popular. Lovely room.
