POLL: What do you think of Pantone's colours of the year 2016?
Comments (78)Thanks to all for the laugh out loud - literally - enjoyment in this latest banter. I do love this forum so much! If anyone thinks they can't wear a particular colour take a look at Zandra Rhodes!!!...See Morethinking through room enfilade - how would you do this?
Comments (9)I still think that you can embrace bolder colours and should consider bold coloured walls a frame for your furniture and art. I hope that the enclosed pictures illustrate that if the dark colour represents less than 50% of the total surfaces in the room the room still feels bright. In fact I think that contrast has the crisp modern feel you wanted. So in your middle room that has reasonable light if you painted the walls a bold colour, the wood work and coving a shade of white and then the ceiling and the wall above the picture rail a pale grey on balance the room will have more light than dark (especially when you add in curtains and furniture and cover some of the wall with pictures and mirrors). Likewise if you painted your whole kitchen a deep colour a lot of it would be covered with cabinets and the deep colour will frame the furniture. So I think that you should have courage to paint your island and canopy a dark shade and a mid tone colour for at least one wall in the kitchen. You hallway is the least light space. You can play safe with a pale colour but in my opinion painting a room white doesn’t increase the light. Consider a mid tone colour confident that there will be well balanced as most hallways have lots of doors and other woodwork that you can paint in the white of your choice....See MoreWhat do you think of this?
Comments (25)Dear Devon kitchen co - you seem unsure yourselves of the design... My first thoughts are with the layout, the position of tall and upper units; it looks like you would walk into the room and feel that these are on top of you, especially the wall unit next to the chimney breast and then the tall units straight ahead of you; the balance just feels wrong. I would always try to place tall units in a way that makes them recede. Open shelving and glass cabinets always help. Difficult when you are working with a smaller space and the brief is demanding, you are also working with two corner solutions and had to create a U shaped kitchen to get everything in. If those tall units opposite the entrance are fridge and freezer, I would play with placing them down the far end of the kitchen and fill that in completely either side with other storage units maybe down onto the worktop, so that they create a wall of units, this would mean you would have a galley either side for surfaces, sink and hob etc, alternatively I would debate the use of under-counter appliances, fridge drawers maybe. Again difficult if your client needs greater capacity and has no-where else for secondary appliances such as a utility room. Very difficult to comment really unless you are in front of the plan and know the client brief. Hope it goes well - Laurane...See MoreWhat’s your favourite home decor style
Comments (14)Great topic! I aspire to being happy with what I choose. I love all styles and admire confidence and quirkiness. I also love advice. I would however expect a visitor to my home to say I’m more in the traditional camp rather than the on trend camp. We’ve just started using MSTeams at work and I’m surprised at the number of colleagues who’s rooms are completely white/neutral ( not fake backgrounds). I was the only one sitting in a blue room....See MoreEllie
