What type of insulation is best for external walls?

I'm going to replace horrible 80s stone cladding on my 1960s house. I'm going to go with UPVC to emulate the white wooden panels that would have been there originally, but can anyone advise on what the best type of insulation is to have underneath?

I do need insulation: There is only a single skin of concrete blocks underneath the cladding andone of the walls is north facing. A builder has quoted for 50mm of solid insulation, a cladding specialist (the cheapest) quoted for a thermal foil blanket underneath.

I want to get this right, but I'm struggling to find meaningful advice online..

Hi Marion, Have you considered chatting to an interior designer about the space and flooring recommendations. Both of these questions really depend on the budget you have, the style of the space over all and what you are trying to achieve. It sounds like you haven't started the build yet but do you have any plans of the new space and details of the style or items to go with it? What style and colour kitchen etc? Where are the thresholds?

Is there a particular reason why you want to further insulate a cavity wall insulated house. I notice the EPC is C rated, so that's quite good on a house of that age. I don't know of any reason however, why you can't further insulate with External Insulation on a Cavity Wall. So, if that's what you want then go for it. However, I'd probably go for the professionals also, not least of which, because you need scaffolding all around to do the job properly.

Hi, I spent all day looking at taps , LOL. I’ve learnt ... - Get a good reliable brand because it’s harder to fix a wall mounted tap than a sink tap. - if you plan on tiling your wall then get one with a backing plate so it’s a bit easier to get to to fix (mine is on a stud wall so I can access it easily from the rear should it go wrong!) - not seen any specific with short projection but I found one called Crosswater Kai which has two lengths (inc a short one) but you can often tell from the pics if it looks short as well. I’ve just ordered one which is a mixer tap so it onl has one hot/cold lever. Although the 3 holes look more symmetrical, I prefer just one mixer tap personally. We had a v small cloakroom basin like your sized ones at our last house and a wall tap would have been better as it was hard to get your hands under it. Perhaps search for compact taps or cloakroom basin taps?

Hi, I have an old home - 1900's, and my front room is COLD. The front room has 3 exterior walls, is carpetted, and the walls are not cavity walls. There is no insulation under the floorboards and the room is carpetted. Windows are double glazed. For insulation, we don't know whether to do the following: A) insulate under the floor boards with wool (and replace the carpet) B) take out joists and do concrete and underfloor heating (also replacing carpet) C) do external wall insulation to two of the three exterior walls (i.e. not the ones with windows) and re-render. Which do you think would have the most impact on the heat of the room? We just don't use the room in winter and its such a shame! We have an extension with underfloor heating and we just use this but I'd like to use the front room more. All experience gratefully received!
