living room with brown leather sofa

any ideas on how to spruce up this living room? its featureless and we are stuck with the brown leather sofas which I dont like but as we have 2 kids are practical.
a couple of years ago we painted the walls grey and tried the white furniture to brighten/modernise the room. but something is just not right. it's not a very bright room and I'm not sure if the grey is absorbing the light and not sure the furniture goes, although again its practical. I have some black and white photos in large ish black frames to put over the sofa but the end wall is bland.
I have considered changing the carpet to the flooring that runs through the hall and kitchen/diner but not sure as I prefer the warmth of carpet in a living room. oh and that's a photo of the blind which I would rather not change as I took ages making it!
any ideas? it's got to be on a budget too!

For what it’s worth - I think you need to re position your furniture it’s all flat against each wall. Add a comment on here with a sketch plan with sizes on - and include the sizes of furniture you want to keep - and we can all have a play with options for you

we have tried every way with the furniture and cannot find a better solution. it's our only living room so the kids cartwheel and get toys out so we maximise the space by having the sofas as so.

Hello christjne, I am just getting a few images for you.. Hold on.. Oka do some that are rather good.. Also their faux flower collection is really good. This one is from them and also their velvet in Porridge and Pale Sage could be nice along with Mole colour and Caviar is one they have too that would work possibly... .. There is also the option of throws and they have one in Mole and you could also think of stones and other shades of earthy tones... Group with 1 plain mole colour to give accent but I'd say 1 of each together on 1 or 2 sides and a throw or two for the sofa.. You may find some others you like too.. They also have Mirrors and the Cesario large could be very nice, it has a nice bevelled frame with dark wood and accent of gold that would be gr8 with the dark sofa.. All depends on budget as I have many more suggestions including antiques but for something under the one roof as it were... : ))

Hi. What colour are your ŵalls re the curtains? I do agree with others that I find a shade of blue works best with brown although clearly many colours do. A dusky pink is also very nice (has to be the right shade though!) if you were to mix it with lighter Browns and soft whites. How contemporary is the rest of the house? Putting down a cowhide rug for example would immediately make it look contemporary. If you went with a rug in shades of browns with some white it would also create a slight contrast between floor and sofa. The sofa looks quite contemporary anyway so would think more about the accessories.

Are you keeping the curtains? If so a different neutral may clash. I have virtually the same colour sofa in my snug and have Slipper Satin and Inchyra blue. However, I would look at Skimming Stone (which may work with your carpet) and Inchyra Blue as a pairing.

Do you need both of the sofas on the long wall? I would swap what looks to be the larger of the 2 with the one in front of the window and perhaps sell the other.

I like the wood floor but if you're on a budget you could add a light rug instead which should help? Do you need the nets for privacy?

what sort of styles do you like and do you have a budget in mind? Plants, lamps, cushions etc would lift it. A light brown/taupe with a pink undertone might work for the walls (I'd also paint the radiator).
